So we sort of have another bid in on a house. The seller wants us to go higher. I can't decide if we should. Pluses on the house, amazing yard (it's only 1 acre but a mostly flat and sunny 1 acre), good (to me) property taxes, nice flow to the rooms, beautifully updated kitchen and decently updated bathrooms, decent location, and plenty of room (holy heck 1800 sq feet can go really far when well designed!) Negatives are: it's more than I wanted to spend and I am worried my desire to get out of here is coloring me, If I wait maybe I will find something better, but if I wait maybe I won't.. And teh husband wants to do some of the work we would do fixing a place up ourselves which would mean it would take forever vs this is all ready to go...

Edit: I just want to clarify, to a normal person the stairs to the lower level/basement are perfectly normal. If you wanted to spend the money you could carpet them because they are full stairs, not the type with the open back like our old basement stairs, I'm just anti-stairs right now because I worry about them with the toddler. Right now she couldn't access them because she can't open doors, but it is something I need to think about since laundry is currently down there.

So...

What would you do, fair reader?

[Poll #1869043]
So my darling husband has offered to take me on a much needed vacation. I'm quite excited because we rarely go on trips together except to see his family and while I like his parents I don't find the Southwest particularly enthralling. I thought Zion was nice the first 2 or so times I visited it, but doing the same hikes there many years in a row just does not do it for me. I confess I don't particularly enjoy desert scenery, I much prefer all the green of a wetter environment. And frankly, the restaurants out there are for the most part terrible. There is only one really good restaurant in St. George and St. George is 20 miles away. Having to cook and clean and grocery shop is not really a vacation. But now I've been offered the chance for a real trip together, there are just a few minor catches:

1) Adina (she has to come with us of course so wherever we go has to be baby friendly)
2) Neither my husband nor Adina currently has a Passport
3) I need to pump every 5-6 hours and Adina needs to eat every 3-4

Ideally, I want to go someplace warmer than here, someplace where I can spend a lot of time soaking/swiming in warm water.

With that in mind... poll time!

[Poll #1662055]
We're leaving for the wedding in less than a week and I feel like I have so much I still need to do! (Mostly trying to see if I can get my shoes fixed and what exactly is wrong with husband's suit, oh and we are hosting the Synagogue kiddush on Sat morning!) On the bright side, my midwife gave me the A-OK to travel to it and has given me copies of all my medical records just in case. I was so relieved, I'd had 1 high blood pressure reading at the appointment before last, 140 over 80 and it made me anxious I could have pre-eclampsia. But at the last appointment I was back down to the healthy and normal for me 110 over 70. So yeah, all seems right with Ryuchan. I'm getting in my kicks and as of last appointment her head is now down like it ought to be. I've finished 32 weeks and so have nearly finished 7 1/2 months (meaning I am in month 8!) It's all sort of amazing.

I've been ranty on my new parenting board because I am against red shirting as well as leaving back kids born in September-December in general. I know I personally loved being younger than most of my class mates. I am feeling thankful I live in CT since I'm pretty sure our cut-off is 12/31 so Ryuchan will have no problem being in elementary with the correct grade.

For the first time in many many many years I own a pair of jeans I love. Oh H&M maternity, how I love thee. They're comfy and stretchy and CUTE! I need to get a picture of me in them when my hair looks good. i.e. not today. Did I mention I got my hair professionally cut at an expensive salon specializing in curly hair? My hair tends to look great the first day now, but not as good on subsequent days once I start tying it back. Oh well.

So for those curious, I got the dresses I ordered from the UK in smaller sizes. The floral print dress I loved is a complete disaster and is completely unflattering. It makes my boobs look huge and super saggy at the same time. I also hate the V-neck as it is way too deep and you can see my bra. So they're all being returned, hopefully today. The other dress I ordered has a lot of potential... but is also slinkier which means... POLL TIME!

You know you want to vote! )
For those who don't know, I'm fast approaching my Level 2 Ultrasound. (It's early in the morning next week.) What makes this appointment special, is I get to find out what sex Ryu-chan is. Supposedly the ultrasounds are quite good now and what they see is likely to be definitive.

For years I thought I would prefer one sex to the other, but now that I'm really pregnant all that matters is that Ryu-chan is healthy. However, that doesn't mean I'm not curious and that I don't want to know.

Kennis thinks Ryu-chan is a girl. What do you think?

[Poll #1566522]
I discovered some new and interesting products and services offered today and not from spam email.

[Poll #1551701]
I am sure by now many people are sick of my pregnancy ramblings, but oh well.

Here are some more )

And finally... a poll. Several caveats about this poll, just because a name gets a lot of votes does not mean I am going to use it, feel free to suggest a name however it must meet certain criteria listed below: Please nothing completely ridiculous, I'm not naming a baby: Megatron or Schneizel. :P I HATE the trend of WASPy last names for first names. Things like Addison and Madison makes me want to break things. I also won't consider names in the top 50 most popular names since I don't want my child known as Abigail K

I'm Ashkenazi Jewish so it is traditional to name your children after dead relatives. It is also traditional not to use a name already in use by another family member. I have the following letters available to me:
A (off limit names: Anne/Ann and Ari)
E (off limit names: Emily)
L (off limit names: Laura, Leah, Linda, and Lucas)
M (off limit names: Megan, Michael, and Miriam)
S (off limit names: Sara/Sarah, Sharon, and Shoshonah) (Edit and Samuel is out! Gah!)
V (off limit names: nothing)
W (William and Willow)

Note: Yes, I have talked to my husband about all these names, and for the most part he doesn't think any of these are that bad, (Azalea is his least favorite) but has no particular favorites. For those curious, Aya is a Hebrew name actually meaning bird-like.

So....
[Poll #1551038]
So yesterday, I was telling [livejournal.com profile] sumergiskank that while cleaning out the guest room I found the sheet of paper with the original "Whore Card" information from RWT. For those curious about such matters, it was a scoring system which divided up the cast into "seme" "uke" and "reversible" and then gave out points based on how easy it was to bed a particular character and how desirable it was to do so. This was come up with very early into the RP as otherwise I think some positions and scores could have been different. I shared with [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank my faith that it was Niou who must have easily gathered the most points having slept with pretty much everyone in RWT, which lead to [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank's highly amusing observation:

I'm not sure what this says about RWT but I'm trying to remember if Niou and Yagyuu had sex

And so while we're on the subject... for those who don't know I'm hoping to apply for a space in February for Day 1 and Day 2 of SCC. For Day 1 I want to do either Geass or Sengoku Basara. The problem is Day 2. I'd like to be a seller because then I can get in early and have a seat and have an easier time trying to get Reborn doujinshi for [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank who is willing to help subsidize this little venture. (it also means I will not be as exhausted come Dolpa the next day) However I uhhh don't really follow any Jump series anymore and I'm not really into anything else that day. I love YuGiOh Abridged, however I have no ideas for my own stories and it needs to be something I want to do since a doujinshi is *A LOT* of work (which is too bad since I think there is a Bakura pucchi.) This leads me of course to the old fall back of Tenipuri since well the characters ad costumes are so much easier to draw and I have lots and lots of old fics and such to use as ideas. But of course if I apply for Tenipuri.. I ship YuuYuu and that is what I want to draw so...

POLL TIME!

[Poll #1497602]
So Far BPALs Planting Moon is a complete bust. I think it is the Geranium, and of course I bought 2 bottles of it which I now need to trade or sell. I'm incredibly impressed with actual plants now. Last year we had two shrubby bushes pulled out from the front of the yard and the whole area re-done. I felt bad to think I was going to lose the 4 Stargazer Lilies that had been near those bushes, but it seemed a small loss to get blueberry bushes (which BTW HAVE FLOWERS ON THEM!!!) But I was shocked to returned from Japan to find the lilies poking up out of the ground! In other tales of amazing plants, it appears that a lettuce also survived the Winter along with the one Arugula and the Cauliflower and I also found what might be a baby Cilantro and some beets from my last time planting.

I also hate Hoary Vetch and I think that, the mint and the Not!Arugula are my mortal enemies though the Vetch is my fault while the other two came with the house. ~.~

And now for a little poll fun...

Tomorrow morning around 4:30 am Eastern Time Code Geass ends. With one episode left a lot still needs to be wrapped up so join the poll and vote for which plot twists are sadly not going to get revealed in this last episode. These should all be completely spoiler free assuming you've seen R2 episode 01 and have all been completely made up so if any of them come to pass, please feel free to snicker a lot

Poll Time

Sep. 1st, 2008 05:44 pm
Without being overly spoilerifc by going into details I've been thinking about where Code Geass could be going and that got me thinking...

I tried to keep this poll pretty spoiler-free for anyone who has not seen through 21 and if you know any spoilers PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THEM

[Poll #1251949]
Sorry for being so incognito. I'm completely addicted to the crack Geass RP. It has reminded me that RPing is one of the best ways to grow to like a character one never liked before and to change some of your ideas on pairings. Mainly this has gotten me to finally like Kallen more. >>;;;

Anyway I'm not going to post my thoughts on 20. I am anxious for 21.

Fortunately, I've not let my addiction stand in the way of me working on dinner and going through things from my CSA. For those who missed it, I belong to CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) where once a week we are given a "box" full of organic veggies grown within about 100 miles of where we live. Some weeks, the veggies are great and things I am excited to eat, like tomatoes or potatoes or arugula, and other weeks it is things I've never eaten a lot of so I need to get creative like watercress, chard and fennel. So far some of the funky herbs have been my least favorite, like anise hyssop. My father claims you can make sambuca from it, which is maybe an idea since I think it is pretty gross otherwise. Last night I made the most wonderful tempeh and string bean stir fry! I'd been marinating the tempeh overnight with a mix of things I found sitting around my house. lol I should write down the recipe for the future or like trying to measure things >>;;;

The chard is so getting turned back into lasgna! ♥. I made some a week ago when Karl came to visit for dinner. It was really amazingly good and I need to get some ingredients tomorrow so I can make it again.
However even more than not posting in LJ and not working on fan-fic, the other thing I have been very remiss with is working on my trip to Japan which is now under 2 months away! GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!

So because there are still hopefully people out in LJ land reading my LJ despite everything...It's Poll time!!

I'm going to Japan on 10/16 arriving on the 17th. I know I want to spend the first bit in Tokyo and see my friends there and go to my event on 10/19 cause yes that is the whole reason for my trip in October! >>;; I then want to head out west, [livejournal.com profile] triplepunch I'd love to stop by and see you on my way west!!!!! I then want to end up in Kansai. I know I'd like to marathon karaoke on Friday night with [livejournal.com profile] chocolate_chip and anyone else who wants to join us. Maybe go to TnS late in the day on Saturday so I can recover from all night karaoke lol On Sunday I want to go to Osaka Comic city and on Wednesday I fly out from KIX.

I'm hoping to make it to Ise, maybe Kanazawa to see the gardens, maybe Disney Sea, maybe Nikko and maybe Katsura if it's not booked completely >>;;;;

For Tokyo, I am looking to stay in 1 of 3 hotels I have stayed in before.

The Center Hotel is in Nihombashi about 10 minutes walk from Tokyo eki. It's pluses are it is about 7800 yen a night. Pluses: The room last time was clean, well designed, had yummy fruit juice ♥ and was near Tokyo eki (10 min walk) Nihombashi eki (5 min walk) and Kayabacho eki 5 min walk. It's a 25 min walk to where my event is or a very short subway trip on the Hibiya to the next station and a short walk. Negatives: Nihombashi sucks for restaurants other than the Dean and Deluca in the basement of Tokyo Eki ♥

The Kazusaya Hotel is also in Nihombashi, but a different part of Nihombashi. It's 2 minutes walk from Shin Nihombashi station an easy transfer from the NEX or 6 minutes walk from Kanda Eki. It's also about 7800 yen a night. Pluses, it's even more convenient to subway lines than the Center since it is 5 minutes walk to Mitsukoshi-mae, an easy walk to Kanda and not impossibly far from Tokyo eki. It's also a short walk to where my event is being held. Negatives: See above about places to eat and i thought the rooms seemed dark and sort of meh.

The Grand City Hotel in Ikebukuro. It's about 8500 yen a night. Pluses: It's in Ikebukuro ♥ So places to eat, and lots of shopping. Convenient to try the places I want to eat in Okubo area/Nakano/going west on the Chuo line areas Negatives: It's a 25 min plus train trip to get to my event, Ikebukuro is not as convenient to the subway lines that go to Shibuya and Harajuku, the bed was not as comfy as the one at the Center.

All the hotels do have internet.

I am also trying to figure out my trip in the West! I really want to see you [livejournal.com profile] chocolate_chip and you too [livejournal.com profile] misspaulette!!! I'm debating whether to spend the whole time in Kyoto or move Osaka.

[Poll #1248197]

Oh and happy belated birthday [livejournal.com profile] theimpassive
I was completely upset because the city confirmed that it was the neighbors who turned us in and there is some dumbass law about walls of any height needing to be certain distances from the street and the edges of the property so now we need to see if we can get a variance, blargh. However I have decided if we have to take down our bricks and because we can not keep them I am so switching to plastic and rubber and even it is uglier the neighbors can do nothing then, hah! I will just be annoyed because of all the money and planting time I lost.

but but but... I tried out my scooter!!!!!!!!!!

Technically, it needs to be registered with the State of New York first, but I figure I can tool around my neighborhood and break it in first. :D I'm also getting a real helmet and I think I'm going to try to take a motorcycle class. For those who don't know, mine is a Zapino which is a brand of small electric scooter. It can go like 30 mph but I've not gone above 20 mph yet. It's electric so it uses no gas at all and has storage places for groceries, though now I wish I could get a real basket for the back like they have in Japan.

So first... help me name my new scooter!

[Poll #1223429]

And now for pictures of my new scooter! )
So please help me with a name and vote!

I'm so sorry to all the people on my flist. I will try to catch up on entries when I get back to the US. I've just been running around so much! If you could, please drop me a comment with any pertinent information you might have for me as well. ^_^;

[livejournal.com profile] jusrecht, I might not be able to read your ficcies until the plane, so please understand. I'm so looking forward to it though, I just know the next few days are packed and I ought to be packing now. ;;_;; Which reminds me I actually started on a Geass ficlet lol We shall see how it goes.

And to makes this entry less pointless...

And Since I like polls... (and this time the text is too small to actually read for Japanese readers..)

Poll Time!

Apr. 28th, 2008 07:19 pm
In Nagoya I went to Animate and had to buy this:

[Poll #1179323]
OK, so I am now up to trying to pick out hotels in Tokyo. I've previously stayed in: The Shin-Nakano Lodge (I will never stay there again!), The Kimi Ryokan (I want a private bathroom >>; ), The Sumisho (OK, but not really near much), The Ikebukuro Grand City (booked 1 of the nights I want), The Hibiya Park (such a nice bed but also booked one of the nights), Chisun Hamamatsucho (sort of pricey for what you get), The Dai-ei in Ginza (I think that is what it was called, typical sort of ehhh business hotel) and the Washington (not convenient and more than the others)

So I'm looking at the Ginza International, it's a decent price, right next to Hakuhinkan Toy Park, but does not have internet in the rooms and the Hamamatsucho Retreat which is a little more, but gives you some sort of breakfast which hopefully I can eat some of, looks like it has nice rooms and gives you internet. The International has a better location and there are places I can eat near there, namely a really good but expensive Indian place. Hamamatsucho is pretty dead at night, but my event is off the monorail which starts there. Both are pretty close together and prob when I get in I will want to shop anyway and will look into a locker so I can either go to Nakano or Ikebukuro.

So help me pick a hotel!
My next minor problem involves my passport. In April 2008 my passport expires. I called the Japanese Consulate in NYC and they assured me that as long as my passport was still valid when I arrived and I was leaving Japan before it expired I should have no problem. As I plan to go and come back all before March 2008, it will be valid the whole time, but I'm still a little anxious, so:

Japan lists

Mar. 9th, 2007 08:57 pm
Ok, before I work on emails, I need to make a list of all the things I need to do before Japan or I will never get them done. ^^;

1.) Work on cleaning the house
2.) Print out hotel voucher and some pictures
3.) Go food shopping for Kennis since he will not be able to when I am gone
4.) Get haircut on Monday at 10:15 am
5.) Get presents for Volks
6.) Get a waffle iron and waffle mix for [livejournal.com profile] yanchamonkey
7.) Make sure the new gloves for Kennis are ordered
8.) Get traveler's checks for Japan
9.) Make reservations for next Japan trip and pick dates!
10.) convert files for new ipod

Originally, I was not so far behind, but now I am. *sighs* I need to figure out what I am going to be wearing in Japan. Fortunately, I made a reservation for a car to take me to the airport since Kennis can not drive. It's a bit annoying because I have to pay a fee for flying at a god forsaken time. Hopefully, Japan will be more restful. Anyone have any ideas on a good gift for Volks and how many gifts I might need?

Finally, a poll!

[Poll #943567]
I'm back from outer space, or I should say Jewish Holidays. Today is Shemini Artzert, which officially ends Sukkot and after Simchas Torah, we're done until Channukah, so woot!

Thanks to Something Awful and [livejournal.com profile] muscatlove and Youtube, I've discovered that Israelis are amazing at dubbing Disney songs. Other than "Colors of the Wind" where the words are just off, the flow is nice and the voices are amazing. Israeli Belle is so good! And Israeli Genie! Now I want to find the CDs... XD;;

I'm also trying to decide which is the proper color for Hiroshi's eyes, so...POLL!

Color A on Viewer's Left and Color B on Viewer's Right

Color C on Viewer's Left and Color B again on Viewer's Right

[Poll #844428]

And now some doll picture spam of my two newest members of the household )
