More decisions
Apr. 16th, 2009 05:53 pmI've discovered a JR East pass can be bought in Japan, which is a very happy thing since I don't really want to pay for Fed Ex shipping and have to wait around for the Fed Ex guy to come. I sort of feel like I have enough to do without that.
I also finally bought a new battery for my laptop, found out more on making Spinzaku street legal and managed to get in a nice walk.
I'm debating my missing two days of reservations. Originally I was thinking of staying in an onsen in Furusawa until I discovered it would take over an hour to get to Tsuruoka from there and the trains only run once every 2 hours o_O;;; So I think it is Sakata for me. Since I think sakura should be way done by then I am also now debating whether I would not prefer to just overnight in Yamagata the 2nd night. The places I found in Tsuruoka itself are smoking and the place in Yonohama, while it has a free bus to Yamagata is also 1 hour by not free bus from Tsuruoka. If I over night in Yamagata I can try to make it to Yonezawa where they are having their Uesugi Kenshin Festival, and possibly make it to an onsen there. I could also maybe go to Yamadera or take a bus trip up to Zao. It just also means I need to be back in Tsuruoka in time to catch a bus. But I don't know how long I am going to spend in Hagure-san.
Yonezawa is on the shink route back to Tokyo vs Zao which is the middle of nowhere. Yamadera is on some tiny barely used train line that eventually goes to Sendai. Decisions!
The other day I went to see the pain doctor with my mom, and at lunch there were crayons at the tables. Since we had two shades of brown and 1 green, I decided I may as well do a tiny bit of sketching. I eventually borrowed a few other colors from other tables.
( cause pictures are large )
I am really liking Sengoku Basara. I love Date and SandaAnd I think I need doujinshi of them >>;;;;

I finally managed to make it through my backlog of entries and of course this is where I share that I am going back to Japan in March lol I'm pleased and excited to announce that I've gotten a space at Haru Comic City and with
ee970's help I've applied to be a part of the Suzaku uke puchi being hosted by Double Slash. I can only hope that the application went through correctly and that I am now a part of it. I'll have to check every so often to see if the list is updated and I am added lol I totally need to revamp my website and part of the problem is I really need to get better at drawing and coloring on the computer and I still sort of prefer doing things by hand. Ah well. This also means I need to work on the copyhons I am hoping to do for this event, I don't want to be doing everything at the last minute again and I want to try doing more postcards. It's really exciting the prospect of being part of something with all the circles whose books I've been collecting for the last 3 years. I also sent one circle a gift picture and that was very nerve wracking. I'm hoping to get some sort of acknowledgment, it just makes me so anxious lol It's funny, I don't feel nervous asking for a sketch but actually sharing something I drew is completely different. I really hope she likes the picture. I still have a lot of room for improvement but I'd like to think I am getting better at drawing Gino and Suzaku. I want to make myself a LJ icon of them based off my own art...
And going onto that.. since most circles really hate people using their art I plan to get rid of any fan-art LJ icons I have that I do not own the rights to and to (i.e. the pictures Ko drew specifically for me to use are not the same thing at all!) slowly get rid of any of my official art LJ icons as well.
Finally, a picture from the darker side of Japan, before I share some more light hearted touring pictures.

We did it all for love!
Dec. 21st, 2008 12:31 pmYesterday, the parents and I went into New York City to see Forbidden Broadway Goes to Rehab, before it closes since supposedly it will not be back for some time post this which is really too bad since I happen to love parodies. Some of the numbers I'd heard before from one of the cast recordings I have but other were completely new. I really liked Feed the Burbs and the naked Harry Potter song to Let Me Entertain You since really, that is why the majority of people see Equus, to see naked Harry Potter. The Xanadu parody was also amusing and I now feel sad I think I missed A Tale of Two Cities because it looks gosh awful!
We were supposed to go to dinner with my Uncle and his girlfriend afterwards. They'd gone to see the performance with us but we'd come in separate cars. We all left the theatre about 6pm and were supposed to then meet at my parent's house. We got there about 6:30. We waited 30 minutes and then called my uncle to find out THEY WERE STILL IN NYC AND HAD NOT EVEN PICKED UP THEIR CAR YET O_O It was like... WTF They knew we wanted to go to dinner, why on earth did they dawdle in NYC for an hour and not even tell us!?!?!? SUCH MORONS! Suffice it to say we did not meet them for dinner. I mean it's nothing new for my uncle, he is the same man who at his own father's funeral did not follow the hearse because he knew a short cut to the cemetery.
Over the last few days we've gotten like 6 inches of snow, so I thought it might be fun to get a few doll pictures outside, at least until my fingers turned red with cold. I was hoping to do some sort of story about Lelouch being glad Gino is away getting a new face up so Suzaku is his and introduce my newest chibi Geass!Yo but yeah... so did not happen >>;
( At least the yard looks pretty )

So I am finally back home in NY, I'm super behind on LJ and have not yes watched 18 though I do know the big spoiler >>;; Someone shared it at Otakon and it was so the suck ~.~ I hope everyone understands why I've not been commenting on their LJs and I will do my best to go back through things once I've watched 18 tomorrow.
First, super happy belated birthday to
cc_lemon *hugs* Sorry, I couldn't do this earlier, our hotel didn't have internet ;;_;;
Anyway for those who didn't know, I was not only going to Otakon, but had plans to cosplay! I'd not cosplayed since uhhh 2003 when I was Ryoma at Katsucon. I make a horrible Ryoma because I tend to smile a lot. loland it didn't help at the time no one knew what Tenipuri was and we had these ultra ghetto costumes I had made with fabric paint since the official jerseys had either just been released or had not been released yet. o_O;; or wait did I cosplay at the last ShoujoCon over the summer in 2003, I can't remember? But suffice it to say, it had been a long time.
sumeragiskank and I had originally just planned to be two YuGiOh characters cause the costumes were mostly easy to get together but then, we fell in love with GinoSuza. >>; So Kim was going to be the shortest Gino ever and I was going to be the happiest Suzaku ever. But between Dollectable and me just being incompetent I didn't order a costume from China leaving me with around a week plus to get a Suzaku costume together. Kim doubted I could do it, but thanks to my sewing skills I DID
In sewing my costume I learned that 1) my sewing machine is awesome! 2) sewing doll clothes is way easier since this costume was frickin huge!!! 3) fleece is both easy and hard to work with and 4) learning to use a dictaphone has improved my pedal control XD;;
Otakon was lots of fun and lots of people took my picture, people I did not even know! To me that is the main reason to cosplay, to have people recognize you and take your picture XD;; I also got lots of hugs in my Suzaku costume cause it was soft and fuzzy. I also discovered that Otakon has the best Artist Alley of any con I have ever been to in the US and I commissioned tons of piccies to be shared in a future post once the final picture has arrived here. I also bought the husband a ton of Death Note as he loved volumes 1+2 and it's been killing me not to share spoilers.
I got to meet
inarikitsunebi, who kindly let me stay in the room she reserved and who I owe money to and loves GinoSuza like me! and
minachiko who makes an amazing Suzaku, much better than me! I also got to meet Tara and spend time with
graycat21 and Beth! *waves*
Hands down the highlight of Otakon which sadly I did not think to record as I would be the queen of hits on Youtube was I saw a very very good Willy Wonka from the Johnny Depp movie cosplayer. Several fangirls went up to him, and then there was a sudden loud cry and 20-30 fangirls (most in costume) surrounded him shouting "Candy!!!" The Willy look seriously horrified for a few moments as the fangirls continued to shout "Candy!!!" until he finally forced a smile and danced a bit with his fans. I should mention that at least one of the fans was dressed as Sasuke XD;;;
( for those few people who don't want to see how dorky I looked in my costume )
( And a few other random cosplayers including some Apollo Justice ones for Emily )
Enjoy!!!

Feb. 29th, 2008 06:29 pmI left on Friday to go to Japan but because of time changes I didn't arrive until late Saturday. I managed to get my upgrade to Business class to go through from the NY to SFO part of the trip and discovered the new personal DVD type players one gets. This gave me a chance to finally see the Transformer movie. There wasn't nearly enough time spent on the Transformers in it. I also saw Mister Magoriums Magical Emporium, a very sad at times film, where I think Mister Magorium spent too much time with Clow Reed at times. Both flights were completely packed which was not bad in business class but sucked in Economy Plus to Tokyo. Ah well.
For dinner on Saturday I met Eleniel on DoA. She was very nice but we couldn't find the restaurant I wanted to go to Nakano. I was also suffering from some pretty bad jetlag. In fact the jetlag was so bad I'm not even sure where we did end up eating! ^_^;
Sunday was the Zenkoku for Geass, the actual reason I was going to Japan at this time lol I got there a bit later than I would have liked so there were about 200 people in front of me and sadly comic cities don't ever have cosplayers. However nearly every single circle was doing sketches and I got a sketch from my all time favorite circle Kashi. I've loved their art work since I discovered them in 2002 doing AsuKira books for Gundam Seed. They're a very prolific circle and professional. They even have a story in the J-boys book put out by Biblos. While I can't read Japanese I can tell you their stories veer from wrongness to completely cracked out. I also got a sketch from Zaco and finally a sketch from a smaller circle that did amazingly pretty SuzuEuphie. I'm actually much more into LuluEuphie than SuzuEuphie and I like Euphie/Cornellia the best, but the art was just so damn pretty! I got a ton of very fun books, found some new circles and found some old favorites. I'm really hoping that SCC has some good Geass as well! Post the event, I went to Ikebukuro to do some fast shopping before going to meet
dilettantka for dinner. I admit now, I was not just excited to be meeting Eda for dinner but also the fact Eda wanted to go with me to one of the vegan places I wanted to try to Tokyo! Eda looked so pretty with her hair grown out, it's odd everyone says as you get older you ought to trim your hair shorter but wow, long hair so worked for Eda! The place we ended up picking was fabulous! The little vegan cookie part of the dessert was just fabulous.
Monday, I was planning to leave in the early afternoon for Kansai, but did some fast shopping in Tokyo before meeting
bittenbefore for lunch! Sadly, I could not find the Bellini's branch in Shinjuku so we ended up at Capricossa. Judy looked so pretty, not that she doesn't usually, but her hair color/style was just so flattering! On my shinkansen, I was happily surprised to find out I had Fuji-san side and the weather was quite clear so by Shin Yokohama, I could actually see Fuji-san! All my transfers went well and I didn't have a hard time making it to Kate's where I ate a yummy dinner with her and Corrine.
