LJ does not appear to be working so I am wondering if this will even be able to post. I was going to make a long and wangsty rant about some of the DoA people who are really bugging me at the moment, but it just doesn't seem worth it. Not when I have more important things on my mind, like trying to get tickets to see the Sengoku Basara Festa. One of the guests is of course, Hoshi Souichirou (since he plays one of the 2 leads and my favorite character Sanada Yukimura) For those who don't know Hoshi has been my favorite seiyuu (Sakurai is #2, even if Suzaku is my favorite character) since 2001, when I first heard from Angelic Layer. He was just so charming and smarmy as Oujirou, I loved it. And while Sanada is nothing like Oujirou, I would be so thrilled to finally have this opportunity. The Festa is the week end after my hopefully next doujinshi event, White Valentine's Day. I have to say, doing doujinshi is somewhat addicting. You do one, and then you sort of feel like you want to do more. It doesn't hurt that the last event I was rather successful and actually managed to sell around 20 books total. Please everyone, hope that I am as lucky at the next event! :D

One nice thing about going to Japan is, seeing movies on the plane so here are some spoilerifc thoughts on the Japanese movies I saw Hagetaka /the Vulture, Kita no Zeronen/Year 1 in the North, Rookies - Sotsugyo/Rookies, and Katen no Shiro/Castle Under Fiery Skies as well as the US movies Gi Joe: Rise of Cobra and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Lots of spoilerific thoughts )

In the future hopefully there will be discussions on the books Havemercy and Shadow Magic

I also tried 4 Conjure Oils. Poison Apple is not bad, but the other 3, Blood Rush, Gingerbread House and Sweet Death are incredibly awful.
Yesterday, the parents and I went into New York City to see Forbidden Broadway Goes to Rehab, before it closes since supposedly it will not be back for some time post this which is really too bad since I happen to love parodies. Some of the numbers I'd heard before from one of the cast recordings I have but other were completely new. I really liked Feed the Burbs and the naked Harry Potter song to Let Me Entertain You since really, that is why the majority of people see Equus, to see naked Harry Potter. The Xanadu parody was also amusing and I now feel sad I think I missed A Tale of Two Cities because it looks gosh awful!

We were supposed to go to dinner with my Uncle and his girlfriend afterwards. They'd gone to see the performance with us but we'd come in separate cars. We all left the theatre about 6pm and were supposed to then meet at my parent's house. We got there about 6:30. We waited 30 minutes and then called my uncle to find out THEY WERE STILL IN NYC AND HAD NOT EVEN PICKED UP THEIR CAR YET O_O It was like... WTF They knew we wanted to go to dinner, why on earth did they dawdle in NYC for an hour and not even tell us!?!?!? SUCH MORONS! Suffice it to say we did not meet them for dinner. I mean it's nothing new for my uncle, he is the same man who at his own father's funeral did not follow the hearse because he knew a short cut to the cemetery.

Over the last few days we've gotten like 6 inches of snow, so I thought it might be fun to get a few doll pictures outside, at least until my fingers turned red with cold. I was hoping to do some sort of story about Lelouch being glad Gino is away getting a new face up so Suzaku is his and introduce my newest chibi Geass!Yo but yeah... so did not happen >>;

At least the yard looks pretty )
As I am still coming to terms with a life without Code Geass each week I decided to write up some reviews of recent doujinshi I bought. I do have a lot more books, but I figured this would be a god start. I'm not scanning inside pages and I do ask that people not use these cover scans for anything. I'm mostly sharing my thoughts on the books since it can be hard to decide whether or not to buy a book and since I own these already someone ought to share their thoughts. I am only sharing thoughts on books I don't regret buying. Please note I do not read Japanese but I can usually get the gist of the story decently well.

Go Me

Jul. 21st, 2007 07:59 pm
Guess what book I've been reading today... If you guessed Harry Potter, you would be wrong. I spent the day with Mr. Gladwell reading Blink. I must confess as of having read most of books 1-6 of Harry Potter, I'd take Blink over any of the books in well a blink XP My husband on the other hand has been reading my copy all afternoon. He refuses to give me spoilers so I can know if what [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank reported to me is true too. Does he not understand, I need to know what happens just so I can understand the wank and the fan-fiction! I'm semi tempted not to even read the book since I don't actually like that many of the characters except Neville.

But my big treat today was meeting my best friend from elementary school and going into NYC. In high school, we use to always meet on the train and go into NYC to get half price tickets at the TKTS booth. I've seen quite a few shows that way and it's something I've missed. Since she lives in NYC now we met at about 9 at the still temporary relocation for TKTS under the Marriott. It's odd, in high school the wait use to seem so long and then once the booth opened, we'd have another 20-30 minute wait until we go to the front. I think between having more windows and arriving a little earlier we lucked out. We had our tickets and were 3-4 blocks south by 10:10 o_O; My friend's first choice had been Wicked and I wanted to see Avenue Q. She's thought about Spamlot but overall, I found the music to that disappointing. It's funny for the first minute or so but then I always feel like I just want the song to end. From someone else in line I'd heard good things about Xanadu and really how can on resist roller skating muses! XD; In the end, I won out and we saw Avenue Q. (Wicked wasn't up.) We then walked to Chelsea and I attempted to remember where Blossom and the Chelsea Market were. I bought some yummy cupcakes at Elini's at the market and we decided to try a tiny French place next to Blossom as my friend is not a tofu sort of person. It was really too bad as I've been dying to go back to Blossom since January. The French places was all right, though my crepe needed something and my "fresh" lemonade tasted like lemon juice watered down, as in there was no sugar in it at ALL. ~.~ We then walked back to the theatre and made a detour for the Meat Market Flea Market (funky clothes and funky jewelry, nothing actually interesting) and went to the theatre.

We were smart and rather than going to our seats first, we immediately went to the bathroom XD; The man sitting next to be was grossly obese and did not really fit in the seat and there was no leg room (like economy on an airplane has more leg room o_O;; ) making it very difficult to fit my book bag near me. (I had my book bag as I had biked to the train station and had my helmet with me.) As for Avenue Q... I so LOVED it. I'd been listening to some of the tunes from it for quite some time, but now I want to actually buy the CD. Kate Monster is a lot less annoying in person, as you get to better appreciate the talent of the puppet master playing her. I adore Rod. I was to snuggle him to my bosom. I think my favorite part was his asking Christmas Eve if it's OK if his friend was gay and being reassured until a few more salient facts were revealed. I also loved the "Bad Idea Bears" OMG. And I loved what happened to them in the end XD;;;; I found myself laughing so hard I cried and feeling for the characters in such a way I cried a bit. And wow the yarmulkes at the wedding, I have no words for them. I also loved the way it really did play off Sesame Street. If I hadn't just read The Tipping Point, I'd have forgotten how Sesame Street use to teach one how to combine sounds to read. But having just come from that book, it made Avenue Q even more amusing.

I still would like to see Wicked and I think Xanadu and I confess I would happily see Avenue Q again. Next time I'll have to find something to put in one of the hats they pass around XD;; I don't know if it is always the case, but this performance there was a Metro Card. XD;;

I then finally got to try the Starbucks Raspberry Mocha Frappucino before heading home.

And while I am in better shape, the South Lex hill still royally sucks. Next time, I am cheating and taking up Longview ~.~
I ought to be sleeping, I believe it is 4 am here, but I've been up since 2. ~.~ Maybe posting to LJ will make me sleepy lol

On my flight over I got to watch Keeping Up With the Steins which I had thought about seeing when it was in the theatres and The Wild. We also had the DaVinci Code, which I was planning to watch but wasn't playing right.

Keeping Up With the Steins was highly amusing and had a really good message in the end. I loved that the Rabbi really did care and what he told Benjamin, about what it meant to be a Bar Mitzvah. I love Joanne, the mother. She's so realistic and I love that you can see that the parents really do love one another. And wow, the Stein's Bar Mitzvah was so incredibly tacky. I am in awe. And the father, Adam, I can so related to still harping on having had a crap party lol

The Wild Is Disney combines Madagascar and Finding Nemo into one movie. Both Madagascar and The Wild tell the story of the animals living in the Central Park Zoo in NYC, who end up back in the wild, though not in the same way or quite for the same reason aka see Finding Nemo. lol

Pluses of Madagascar over The Wild
The Penguins
The monkeys
NYC looks better
Better NYC humor (OMG I so love the line about needing to take the New Haven line!!)

Pluses of The Wild over Madagascar
Sampson is less annoying
Kiefer is in it
William Shatner is in it
Eric Idle wrote a song and sang in it
Curling (the sport)

Ryan is incredibly annoying and all I could think is, wow, Kiefer has to save his whiny stupid progeny, again. It's just like 24 I kept expecting Kiefer to say "You need to trust me" and with everyone depending on him, as well as the time limit to reach the boat, I was amused.

Today we're off to visit [livejournal.com profile] muscatlove who said we could come whenever. This is not a good thing to say to your two jet lagged friends. We forced her to amend this to after lunch. XD;

PS Anyone on my flist want to join my Leeke Shoe pre-order group order?
I am in another doll quandry. Ever since I decided I didn't need Sayuri, I've been looking longingly at girl Nikys. Girl Nikys with blossom bodies so they have slightly bigger boobs. *__*

I could sell for my PF Kitsune and Inari and get twin girl Nikys. Since I now have a TF size Yuki and Yuzu, it would work, and though they'd be the same size as "Uncle" Syuusuke and Uncle Yuuta, they would be the perfect size with "Uncle" Masaharu, Uncle Hiroshi and Mama.

Unlike Yuki and Yuzu, who I have 2 sizes of, I would not have 2 of Kitsune and Inari. It's either or.

So...

Spoilers for the Devil Wears Prada, the movie )

I also saw the last 5 minutes of Superman while waiting for it to end so we could all go home. My thoughts.. someone needed to invest in a good editor. lol
For those of you who don't know, I'm going to a wedding on Sunday, and I'm attempting to figure out what I ought to wear. (As I am *NOT* buying something just to wear for this wedding.) Since LJ people seem generally rather opinionated, I'm hoping at least some of you will share your opinions with me. ^o^

I have:

A pink floral print spaghetti strap dress (very summery) which I wore to a wedding in 2000 (the couple is still together.)
A black floral print tank dress with little jacket which I wore to a wedding in 1998 (couple is now divorced) and my Grandmother in-law's 85th birthday prty in 1998.)
A black floral print dress which I wore to celebrate my husband's conversion in 1997
A black stretchy velour dress which I wear to the Synagogue's Channukah party.
A black strapless dress which I wore to two weddings in 1998 (one couple divorced and one couple we lost contact with.)

I guess I could also dig around my parent's house and see if there is something else.....
I feel like I really shouldn't wear any of the dresses I wore to weddings that ended in divorce, but my husband says I am being silly, and what I wear doesn't make or break a marriage. I, of course, know he is right, but still...it seems a bad omen in my mind to wear something like that....I'm very tempted to wear the dress from '97, but I'm not sure if it's because it's the best choice or because I'm just pleased I *FIT* in it again. ^^;;;

We are expecting this wedding to actually take place, to be distinguished from the last one we were invited to...

Last night I did go see "Lost in Translation" aka "Why everyone should read a guidebook once in a while >.<"

I admit, I'm a bit nitpicky, all right I'm terribly nitpicky, and there were just a few times where the director picked to jumble together scenes on purpose for cinematic effect or because she wanted to see certain images, that as someone who has been to Japan, I found very jarring. The example that made me giggle, is when taking a cab, to try to get to their hotel in Shinjuku, Charlotte and Bob go past Tokyo Tower and then over Rainbow Bridge to Daiba. (And right as we're getting to the sign saying "Daiba" they cut away.) Unfortunately, Odaiba is in the EXACT oppopsite direction of Shinjuku, and unless they're just splurging on a cab trip through Tokyo it's completely ridiculous. Charlotte staring confused at a subway map, just seemed, well, if she *BOUGHT* a guidebook it might have helped a lot.... I'm also somewhat confused as to why she is taking the subway from Ometosando to Shibuya.... I mean really, she can just walk back to Harajuku and go directly there and the Yamanote line is sooooooo straightforward. Or Hell, the WALK isn't that bad between those two places....I also sort of want to know how she got to Ometosando station since she started in Shinjuku, why not take a Yamanote line train from Shinjuku to Shibuya. >.< And to be really really nitpicky, while Charlotte takes the shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto, and the view of Fuji-san was correct, the inside of the train looked wrong. ^^;;;; Maybe the views are just blending in my head, but the view from the other window I think doesn't happen until past Kyoto.... And damn her train is empty if she can move around that much!

I sort of feel like Charlotte and Bob would be lost anywhere they were, and Japan just happens to highlight this, perhaps this was the point of the movie... but it also makes Japan seem a strange and confusing land, a land of where scenery blends together and the language and culture seem a hazey confusion. And truly, it doesn't have to be quite that bad! If any of you ever see the movie, they show the HMV where I saw Suwabe during it. ^o^ But no Sunshine 60... ;;_;; And the end of the film, I'm really hoping it's on purpose or else Tokyo seriously needs to train its cab drivers better, cause at this rate I'll be back in Japan before they get to the airport!
While my DVD player refuses to play my Tenipuri Festa DVD because it has some weird PS2 coding, my husband's Mac was willing to play it!!!!! I can't get the sound, just the pictures, but from just the pictures....
*_______________*

For those who want to read about the DVD...

Anyway, I have to remember to never read fan-fics unless [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank recommends them to me. While sometimes she can be a bit off, she's much better than I am at weeding out things that should not be read. *sighs heavily*

And in answer to [livejournal.com profile] kosquarepelli's question, it appears I like "Blood" more than "Just for Dream" since I listened to "Blood" for 3 weeks straight and I've already added it back to my playlist which means "Just for Dream" is no longer on repeat. ^^

I've made a huge dent on my new layout, though as [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank and [livejournal.com profile] becroberts have told me, no one is likely to truly get it but me. I scanned my moving page, and made a dent in scanning doujinshi to sell and to add to Penal-tea. Hopefully, if I don't oversleep tomorrow, I will be sharing soon. ^_^
But while nothing beats that, [livejournal.com profile] kosquarepelli and I have been having a ton of fun.

We finally watched my copy of the Seigaku fandisc, and damn, it was a lot more fun than I expected. The best part, hands down were the official "AMVs" to the various Seigaku character songs. And more particularly, what they focused on in each of them. Both Ko and I agreed, that Tezuka's song was absolutely horrible, but the way how the opening mirrored the opening of the Hyotei AMV on the Rival's Fandics, and they put Tezuka in the *EXACT* same poses as Keigo just seemed so hilarious. It was like the anime was saying, please please please slash them. Karupin appeared in both Kaidoh's and Ryoma's. Eiji's focused on his great love and his great fear: the toothpaste, and Inui's juice. Most of these songs, I wouldn't listen to on Winamp, but with AMVS, they were a lot more fun.

Ko and I re-watched the musical, and Ko caught something I'd never seen before, Inui-Taka slash! It was amazing. During the Finale, Taka drops his racket and Inui runs out, he gives him back the racket, but first he holds Taka's wrist and gives him a significant look. Inui keeps coming back to help Taka. Poor Kaidoh, he's going to have to find a new seme now. *cackles*

We also went to see the Matrix: XTV
Spoilers to follow

So Ko and I were discussing the various rivals and their magical tennis powers and decided that Sengoku's was being an asshole. ^o^

Before we went to the movie, Ko and I were talking about Miaka and suddenly we started casting PoT into Fushigi Yuugi. The cast list follows:

Miaka==Momo (Because they're both author avatars and everyone has a crush on them.)
Yui==Tezuka (He only smiles for Momo)
Tamahome==Inui (It was as close as we could come to someone thinking about money all the time, just substitute data for money in any of Tamahome's lines.)
Hotohori==Keigo (Do we need to give any justification for this?)
Noriko==Fuji (Fuji is pretending to be Yuuta, who died tragically, and now Fuji is living in Keigo's male harem aka Hyotei.)
Chichiri==Sengoku (We don't remember how we got this, but it amuses us.)
Mitsutake==Kaidoh (Cause they both love cats, and Karupin is of course Tama)
Tasuki==Eiji (Just cause Eiji would love having a fire fan)
Chiriko==Taichi (You just know it works)
Nakago==Sakaki (See above reason)
Soi==Kirihara (Recharging the Baron with sex ^o^ that and the lightening)
Amiboshi==Ohtori
Suiboshi==Shishio
Tomo==Mizuki
Ashitare==Akutsu
Miboshi==Nanjiroh (It's the monk thing ^o^)
Keisuke==Oishi
Tetsuya==Taka
Suzaku==Ryoma
Seiryuu==Yamato
Taiyijun==Sumire

Enjoy!
