So today I at long last got to see Wicked. For those who don't know, despite having the CD and several illicit recordings, I've never actually seen it before. I did try reading the novel but only made it about 10 pages in because I found Maguire's writing style a little dry ^_^;;

lj cut so I can babble )
I don't think even Lux is outrageous enough to be Olivia Newton John! :D So yesterday I met [livejournal.com profile] ee970 and we ate yummy food (cupcakes and gelato!!!) and went to go see a musical. We were trying to decide between Mama Mia, Hairspray and Xanadu. As I've seen Avenue Q now 2x and have tickets to see Wicked in a few weeks. For those who don't know, Xanadu is based on the 1980 movie musical starring Olivia Newton John as a rollerskating Greek Muses in SoCal. And no, I am not making that up. It is full of cheezy songs and rollerskating! Having secretly enjoyed Starlight Express (back when C.B. was in it ~.~ ) I was leaning towards Xanadu.. What I didn't know was Xanadu the musical is a loving parody of the movie and even has some Clash of the Titans jokes! <3 Yeah for bad movies!

My favorite exchange in the musical went something like:
But Clio, how will you keep him from recognizing you as the girl in the picture?

I shall wear rollerskates, legwarmers, and I will talk with an Australian accent. And I will call myself KIRA

And I was struck with the vision of Raito on roller skates trying to disguise the fact he is a demi-god by using the name Kira

I'd seen Kerry Butler in the Les Miz revival I think, but she was amazing as Olivia Newton John/Clio/Kira :D The roller skating was fabulous and now I want to see it again and sit on stage and dance around like a moron in the ending bit!

I need to check DoA but I am avoiding it and working on my new cheezy crack fic instead.

Happiness

Gino and Suzaku are still being pains, but happiness!!! I discovered Kerry Ellis is coming to the US to star in Wicked starting mid June and we have tickets for mid July! Go me! I think she does a really good job in the Chess Concert, which by the way is amazing, but gaaaah Adam Pascal is so no Murray Head ;;_;; So screechy!!! I don't even want to listen to his big solo songs since I can't barely take him in duets. But Josh Groban is just lovely and as good as Tommy Korberg. <3 Idina has a pretty voice but sometimes just seems a bit off compared to Elaine Paige but definitely is as good as Judy Kuhn. I so loved Chess, I wish it hadn't been such a flop here. And I am so scared, one of the 4kids dub actors was at one point Fiyero in Wicked. Rex Raptor singing Dancing Through Life is just going to give me nightmares. ^_^;; (He was also the dub voice of Hao and Yoh in Shaman King, wasn't that voted worst dub ever? ) It's like finding out Dan Green is going to be the new Phantom. lol

OK must be good and work on fic!

GAH!

So while I've not seen Wicked the Musical in person I've listened to a bunch of the mp3s and skimmed the actual book...

Tonight I was reading through the wikipedia article on the musical and..
cut for spoilers for anyone who cares )

In amused news, the LotR musical is putting out a cast album on the 4th. A part of me really wants to hear it, cause come on LotR MUSICAL
Doing the musical meme got me thinking as to what shows I've actually seen. I'm not going to include plays or anything seen Off Broadway, including Forbidden Broadway. On all the productions I know I got some autographs post, marked as well.
And the list! )

Current Broadway shows I would like to see, Wicked and Xanadu. I'm hoping to talk my mother into tickets for Wicked and maybe I will see if Marla wants to see Xanadu....

It's interesting, flipping through my old playbills I've seen some decently well known Broadway/box office stars, I guess that is the next list. lol
Next, musical meme ganked from [livejournal.com profile] bwinter
Cut to be nice.. )

I had planned to post a long post on Freedom of Speech, Thoreau and irony, but I've gotten tired and I can't find the bad essay I wrote my Junior year of High School. I'm still thinking on the whole F-lock issue. I might just start using it on certain posts. I've also now set up an account on Journal Fen, Insane Journal and Greatest Journal. Wheeeee!
I am so dead Avenue Q meets Fiddler on the Roof with special appearance by Ben Brantley and Czar George lol Do not watch if you are easily offended, but wow I am just in awe. I think Rod singing how he wants a top is so love.

I also love this AMV of The Internet is for Porn Starring Tsuzuki of YnM as Kate Monster with the obvious choice for Trekkie lol

;;_;;

I went to check the Broadway comm and someone posted the 2 things I wanted and now the links are DEAD. ;;_;; I'm so sad, because I can't just go and ask for them again cause they were posted not so long ago. GRRR I so wanted the Israeli Les Miz. I hate when things like this happen.

In better news, I have a few things planned that if they pan out (which I think they will) will be very happy! I need to make a list of things I need to do before I go to Japan (other than the obvious cleaning) >>;

*sighs*

First, a very Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] biscuitbear Did I get the date right, I think my memory is going as I get older. ^^;

After taking that family picture of the dolls I started re-thinking my every growing collection and have decided to sell Tony, Kyle and Keigo. Keigo has already found a new home with [livejournal.com profile] graycat21, so he gets to remain as Keigo and I can still visit him sometimes and I think he will be happier. Tony is getting split as I've found quite a few people interested. o_O While I do like Niou as a character, he mostly sat in his box, and whenever I was going to take a large doll to a meet, it was always Hiroshi. I guess I feel like I would rather have the money than a doll I am not that attached to, and the face-up was going to have to be re-done, and I just couldn't bring myself to put more money into him. Kyle is going for the same reason. The twins are staying on though despite their parents uncle's hopefully imminent departure.

Sales Thread

I'd love an offer on the One Off and Kyle. I guess I ought to try to get better pictures this week end.

I've been experimenting with joining non-anime communities. I've gotten a few responses to posts in [livejournal.com profile] lupin_snape, wich makes me feel welcome but the Broadway one is not very friendly at all. I really want the stupid Israeli Les Miz, I own the damn record and *BOUGHT* it back before there was much of an internet for an enormous price. I've upped the Viennese Les Miz, and no thank yous, no nothing. The only good thing I can say is I've gotten a few recordings I've really wanted through there. It does irk me a bit, I wonder how many people in the community were actually BUYING these sorts of things back when there was no internet and you needed someone to go to those countries or pay ridiculous prices to get things through Footlights.

At least I finally got Geass 17 as an AVI.

For Judy

[livejournal.com profile] bittenbefore asked me to take pictures of my doll family. All dolls I am in the process of selling are not there, the head I have without a body is missing, Inuki, and Keigo is having a bootie call visiting [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank

piccies below )

In other notes, I am completely in love with the parodyof Aspects of Love and MArtin Guerre. Particularly Aspects of Love, as wow, they so summed up the show lol
A while back, [livejournal.com profile] bittenbefore was sharing things she was in love with, so I think I am going to try and make every month a little brighter by listing 5 things I am in love with which are not strictly computer related lol

1. Arugula XD; (for those who don't know I adore bitter greens like arugula, I even like eating it straight.)

2. Sugar Scrubs (so nice on my skin <3 and the ones I own have the most lovely scents)

3. Cynthia Steffee skirts (I currently own 4, and I just love the way they fit. I so need to go hunting on ebay for more.)

4. Pop Sociology books (Most people read pop psychology books, but I have always been a pop sociology person. I love books like The Second Shift, Nickel and Dimed and Falling From Grace If anyone has recommendations on a Sociology book with lots of case studies but little in the way of jargon, please recommend.

5. Meeting a friend for lunch (this one is sort of obvious lol)

I've also been thinking about a post [livejournal.com profile] reynardine made about disturbing songs in 1776. In all honesty, the most disturbing song I can easily think of is the following song I adore from the musical Assassins
How I Saved Roosevelt

It's a lovely play on a John Phillips Sousa tune, and on a first listen it doesn't seem so disturbing until you stop to really think about the song. Overall, I really like Assassins and am still kicking myself for missing it the second time it was on Broadway. ~.~

One a side note, is it just me or is a British cast recording of 1776 somewhat.. disconcerting.

In other news, while it is early yet, I'm soon going to be posting one of those wishlists for the holidays again, as my birthday is at the beginning of December, so if anyone is looking for an idea, it will be available. ^^
