My in-laws cook 'adequately'. It's just *huge*, rich meal. Salad was good, but dressing is not on the side - it's doused on. The tri-tip was fine, but MIL decided to make Chateaubriand for 'her boys' and insisted the wives eat it too -- ugh ... way too rich. There was pasta (ok). The mashed potato/cauliflower casserole was yummy (but made by a friend of the family). I don't know where they bought the challah ... but it was actually a bit 'rubbery'. :-P
It doesn't occur to MIL to have'healthier' options -- one can still be fed well without tons of fat & carbs.
Foccacia Cabbage and Swiss Cheese soup (it tasted richer than it was, it's very heavy on the vegetables) Leek and Mozzarella Frittata Baby greens, fresh pear and feta salad Green Beans sauteed with Marinated Tempeh Pear Cake with Fresh Whipped Cream and my Mom made Tortellini with Pesto
What sort of salad dressing is it? I find traditional Jewish style cooking tends to be heavy and I can't eat it. I don't know if everything I make is lighter but it is different lol
Some places make offer challah. I need to practice making it from scratch I just hate painting things with egg. >>; It seems like a waste.

Date: 2009-09-20 06:16 pm (UTC)Maybe your in-laws are good cooks? We're stuck visiting my aunt today and she doesn't believe in using spices. ~.~
I plan to make a post about what I served, but for me the big success was the foccacia! ♥
