Pardon my ignorance, but what type of New Year is today...? I'm guessing perhaps a religious one, but better ask than just assume. ^_~

Happy New Year too!

We're heading to my in-laws for dinner. But I'm sure whatever you're making will be much tastier! ^_^

Happy New Year to you too! This morning, we were out in the Richmond district (far northwest of the city), where there are three large synagogues, and everyone was getting out of services. It looked so festive with all the children dressed up.^_^

Does this mean I should say things like... The Red Sox might be more popular but at least we pay our players less? XD;;;

It's Rosh Hashanah the Jewish New Year. It started Friday at sunset. If I was a good Jew I would not be using the computer on the holidays but sadly I am a very bad Jew lol

Thanks! :D

So far it has been quite happy since I've been bad and skipping synagogue. XD;;;

Plus I managed to successfully make foccacia!

Thank you! *hugs*

Maybe your in-laws are good cooks? We're stuck visiting my aunt today and she doesn't believe in using spices. ~.~

I plan to make a post about what I served, but for me the big success was the foccacia! ♥

Yeah, I've seen the BART going out to Richmond, I think it was not so far from where my SiL use to be in El Cerrito. (Though now she is in Boston)

I use to be one of those children lol But now I am a bad adult and I stayed home and made food for everyone to eat instead. I much more enjoy the whole festive meal aspect of things.

Oh, you are thinking of the city of Richmond in the East Bay, not the Richmond district, which is an area in San Francisco. I think that the city of Richmond has more hip-hop clubs than synagogues.^^

Mmmm ... foccacia!

My in-laws cook 'adequately'. It's just *huge*, rich meal. Salad was good, but dressing is not on the side - it's doused on. The tri-tip was fine, but MIL decided to make Chateaubriand for 'her boys' and insisted the wives eat it too -- ugh ... way too rich. There was pasta (ok). The mashed potato/cauliflower casserole was yummy (but made by a friend of the family). I don't know where they bought the challah ... but it was actually a bit 'rubbery'. :-P

It doesn't occur to MIL to have'healthier' options -- one can still be fed well without tons of fat & carbs.

Let's see I made:

Foccacia
Cabbage and Swiss Cheese soup (it tasted richer than it was, it's very heavy on the vegetables)
Leek and Mozzarella Frittata
Baby greens, fresh pear and feta salad
Green Beans sauteed with Marinated Tempeh
Pear Cake with Fresh Whipped Cream
and my Mom made Tortellini with Pesto

What sort of salad dressing is it? I find traditional Jewish style cooking tends to be heavy and I can't eat it. I don't know if everything I make is lighter but it is different lol

Some places make offer challah. I need to practice making it from scratch I just hate painting things with egg. >>; It seems like a waste.
