So while I've not seen Wicked the Musical in person I've listened to a bunch of the mp3s and skimmed the actual book...

Tonight I was reading through the wikipedia article on the musical and..

WTH Elphaba lives and gets a happy ending with the scarecrow?!?!?! This SUCKS! Sometimes what makes a story good and poignant is a little tragedy.

This sort of really hurts my desire to see it.

In amused news, the LotR musical is putting out a cast album on the 4th. A part of me really wants to hear it, cause come on LotR MUSICAL

I remember reading reviews of the LotR musical and feeling my mind shut down at the thought. Trying to cram it all into very long films is one thing, but into a stage show? (The world's first truly EPIC musical?)

I just read some and wow it sounds EPIC

Have I mentioned I have a taste for the bad musicals?

But seriously, if they could turn Les Miz a 1200+ page book into a 3 hours musical one could think they could do it with LotR, maybe.

The end of the musical is what was essentially Elphaba's crack theories descent into madness in the book. Boq was not the Tin Man, Fiyero was not the Scarecrow, and there is no proof that the lion cub she rescued was the Cowardly Lion. So yeah, the musical is disappointing because it erases the poignancy of the book's ending. Apparently something can't be inspiring unless it has a happy ending. It's a fun musical if you can ignore the ending, but I've found the book to be a more satisfying story.

I tried the book and found it a little too dry for me, which is why I skimmed. >>;

And yeah I heard that Boq is not the Tin Man or Fiyero the Scarecrow in the book. (Though I like "Dancing Through Life" and "March of the Witch Hunters" XD;;; )

But I liked Elphaba dying it made "For Good" more poignant. At least the musicals give you tons of Elphaba/Glinda slash XD;

It actually would be pretty easy to do, at least so long as you picked to only do a single book.

Come on singing and dancing Voldemort would so get all of your love and you know it! XD;

Yeah, I could see it not being so bad, if they do it right.

XD OMG YES. That would be nothing short of brilliant.
