I have to get a birthday gift together before Fri morning so that it will hopefully reach its destination in time. I had a lot of good ideas for gifts, one of which is sitting in another friend's apartment because I forgot to say something about it. The other half I still have to get together. I know some of the things I want to get, but it's getting them together. I think bicycling is out tomorrow morning, which is probably best in the short term.
Since I was playing with my scanner tonight, I decided to scan some doujinshi covers so I can brag about some of the more interesting things I own. For the record, none of these doujinshi are smutty as far as I know, it's more the subject matter which makes them fascinating.

Yes, it's a Producers doujinshi, though how everyone suddenly became bishies I know not.

Les Miserables, the musical, doujinshi. lol This one is mostly gag, and from the art it looks based on the 10th Anniversary cast.

Another Les Miserables doujinshi I own. I really like the art in this one, it's very Javert-centric. Most of it though seems to be the circle's views on the production/cast.
I also wanted to share the wonderful puzzle,
muscatlove made for me!!! At Muji, one of our favorite stores, you can buy cool things, like a make your own puzzle.

It would be so so so so cool to finally meet!!
Did I tell you, my friend who did the translation for you has recently started watching Dr. Who. lol
I told my in-laws you lived in New Zealand, so, umm how long IS the flight to the US. lol I am hoping to get tons of miles. Also, any advice on interesting thigns we can do before I look into a guidebook? We're hoping to come in your summer, plus it gets damn cold in NY!

Date: 2006-05-27 05:43 am (UTC)Ho-ho-ho resistance is futile re: Doctor Who. ;D
If flying direct it's about 12 1/2 hours (lots of milage/airpoints!!) - however, that's departing from LA.
Oh, the basic guide to things to see & do in NZ: North Island = Rotorua, you gotta see the bubbling mud. *g* Auckland's a nice place to visit if you avoid the city centre and go along the coast (seaside, Islands, etc). Also from there you can do a stay-over-one-night trip to Tiritirimatangi Island - a boat-ride, lovely views, not too strenuous walks, and the BIRDS! The birdlife there is just incredible. staying overnight is a bonus, since away from city lights the stars in the sky...I remember it being like a field of daisies, there were so many, just incredible. It's very beautiful to be away from human habitation (for just one night ^_~). Well, actually, any of the islands offshore from Auckland are nice. Wellington is cool because it's near the sea and the big museum there (Te Papa) is a must-see. Apart from that, what you'll find is the upper north is mostly coastal towns, then most of the rest is dairy or sheep farming country - and the cities, of course. If you're feeling very adventurous, the mountains are open to tourists over summer - Mt. Tongariro is a lovely, but tiring, hike & you get great views from the top. Mt. Ruapehu is movie!Mt. Doom, if you're feeling like enacting slashy Frodo/Sam scenes. *snicker* Mt. Taranaki is movie!Mt. Fuji (re: the Last Samurai) tee hee.
Oh, last one: Waitomo has glow-worm caves.
South Island = this is where you get more of the spectacular scenery, especially the Southern Alps. Kaikoura is a nifty coastal town - not only do you get great views just driving down there, but there are whale tours (to see Right Whales & occasionally Sperm Whales...dolphins generally tag along for the ride as well). Nelson's a nice spot to just chill out & enjoy the rivers/ocean, with cherry season in January. Mmm, cherries. *licks lips* Christchurch is a big city but without the big city vibe: the arts scene and punting on the river and sea-side trips are all good. Akaroa is the formerly-French-colonised town, and I can highly recommend the dolphin trips there (they're not ordinary dolphins, they're these little dinky cute ones). Ummm, after that you're pretty much getting into the high country: mostly hills, mountains & sheep stations, etc. Ergo, great scenery, quite tiring hikes (note that most of the hiking trails are signposted & include distances + walking times. It's usually possible to do a shorter version of any given hike).
Okay, that's a lot!^^;;; I didn't realise I even remembered half this stuff. *lol* Should give you an idea of what there is to see, anyhow.

Date: 2006-05-27 05:53 am (UTC)I have not climbed real Mt. Fuji, though I've seen it quite often. It's so impressive when you can see it from Tokyo cause it's just so BIG!
Cherries! I adore cherries! I went whale watching in Maine, but it made Kennis puke, so we prob won't go again. My in-laws live in like the middle of Utah, so they see stars a lot, but I live in NY, so...
OK which hikes have drop offs? I am scared of heights lol
Frodo/Sam and Legolas/Gimli were my first slash pairings in Jr. High lol I have such a soft spot for them. (and the movies were SO Frodo/Sam *_* )
Now to figure out how to get this in 2 week! BTW, y'alls drive on the wrong side, right? 12 1/2 hours from LA is not bad. Not sure where we would change planes from NY. Maybe we could all meet in LAX since the in laws will prob fly in there from UT and sister in law can come down from San Fran.
I'm so excited!!! *hugs*
PS I use to want to go to Cornwall because of Poldark lol
