Good morning sunshine
Sep. 13th, 2006 06:10 pmHappy belated Birthday
isachi and
konoha!!!
Being in Japan throws one a little off. ^^;;
Tanabe was very hot, very very hot and humid, it was almost like taking a vacation to summer again, since it's been rather too cold and rainy in New York for my tastes lately. The highlight of this was going to the beach. The water was so lovely, you could just walk in, and the temperature was perfect. We didn't go out very far, there was no life guard which always makes me sketchy, that and we were warned of jellyfish, but it was just lovely standing in the water for a while and looking out at the coast. We saw a flying fish jump out of the water a few times, and a huge falcon before heading back. One thing I have learned this trip, is how expensive it can be to eat and cook in Japan. I always think of my grocery bill as higher than it ought to be, since I have a tendency to shop at Whole Foods and buy things I don't necesarily need (i.e. carmelita bars) I also like to keep my house stocked with juice and pasta. There are only 2 of us, but we often spend $60 a week. I know when I was living in Texas and we had a lot less money, we were able to get by on only $30, we also drank that nasty frozen juice. $60 a week in Japan would be incrediblely good. Vegetables are so expensive and come in such tiny packages. I've never seen such cute and tiny eggplants and green peppers.
I also got to karaoke 2x in Tanabe. The second time it was just me and Jenn, so I decided to try and bastardize some songs I knew I was going to suck at. If I keep practicing I know I can get the right notes for Reason, but I am NEVER EVER EVER trying White Destiny again.
kosquarepelli would also be interested to know the karaoke rooms in Tanabe have option DDR pad. I also tried Quiet Night C.E. aka the Meer version of the Lux song. If I practiced I could actually maybe get it. I tried looking at the screen and not just the lyric sheet since I know a few kanji and kana by heart, but it's so hard and when you get animation it can be distracting. (i.e. for Realize we got lots of shot of original Seed ending including nearly all the ending spoilers. lol)
Unfortunately, since our afternoon at the beach, the heavens have opened up and it has been pouring. I fear terribly for the line at Doll Show. ^^;;;
Yesterday I went up to Osaka and went to the Osaka History Museum, which was fascinating despite only having tiny descriptions in English. My favorites were between the Naniwa Court setting and the Edo period cut outs with the bridge. So cool! I wonder if any of my pictures came out lol I also did some shopping, because really what is a trip to Japan with out it. I managed to resist buying quite a bit, but then I didn't see the overweight chibi Kira figure, and the one chibi figure set I wanted was 3500 yen and I am not spending $30 on figures, even if I get a ton of them and Lux and Meer are adorable. I couldn't find the Jet Monster book I wanted, and got rather soaked in the process, but to make up for it, I found copics on sale for 250 yen each. *________* I so hope I can find a sale like that in Tokyo. I bought my missing Kashi books at Animate only to see them cheaper in K-books. Grrrrrr I hate when that happens, at least I got points.
I nearly spent $30 ona Gundam umbrella lol
Most of the Dolpa items were gone from Volks Osaka, though I bought the chibi dress for Chinatsu. I suspect there will be a better selection in Sato, and last Doll Show Volks had brought some Dolpa items to sell. One nice thing is I finally got to see all the new Dolpa dolls in person. The yos are so so so so so incredibly cute and wow, do they remind me of Yuki. They actually do have slightly evil grins in person. Syo, Nana and Kira were quite pretty, but of course my interest was the Yos.
Today, I am off to Tokyo. In a way, I want to go, hoping to find that stupid doujinshi, but I also sort of prefer being here. Sometimes I almost feel I could just make a restful vacation staying in Wakayama, but I know I would feel stupid missing events I really want to attend.
Besides, it's the only way I am going to manage to finish my ficlet. lol
BTW
rainedrops if you want the newest Negahyst, I saw it for $12.
Gah! I nearly forgot, PoT is FINALLY coming out with some merchandise I want. For the new year they're making cute birthday charms and I need need need need February. (This is when I hate being born in December. For PoT I get Ryoma ~.~ Just Ryoma ~.~ Why not Niou!!!!! And I have the same problem with Seed, I get Rey, damn it why could I have waited another month or two! lol)
So for those curious, and I should point out they're ALL chibis *_____* from what I remembered of months they were: Jan Kabaji (and Keigo), Fuji Kyoudai with the most adorable put upon Yuuta, Yuckymura (and Sanada), Oishi and Bunta, Mizuki and Kaidoh, Inui and Renji, Momo (and Ryoma), I forget August, Kirihara and Gakuto (SO CUTE), Tezuka and Keigo, Eiji and Taka, and just Ryoma.
