Who likes sap, why me!
Dec. 11th, 2004 11:18 amFor those who are curious, I am back from my trip to summer Florida. I learned some important lessons, like I can't resist those stupid official pins even though I *SHOULD* ^^;;;;
For those who didn't know, I am sappy. I get teary easily (I can't watch episode 66 of CCS without breaking down) and I like cheezy things... so with that warning... Rachel's Wonderful Adventures in Disneyworld.
When trying to get from the Airport to our resort at 10:00 pm at night, we managed to miss our turn-off and took the scenic route throught the MGM Studios Parking lot ^^;;;; Disney sooooo needs better signs. The resort, when we got there, was quiet and my request for a room near a bus stop had been fulfilled. The beds were extremely comfortable and my mom had to admit the property was beautiful. After a fast late dinner, as we had NO FOOD on our flight, I went to bed so I could get up early, for Early Admission.
My first day Early Admission was for Epcot and fortunately for the two rides I most wanted to ride, "Test Track" and "Mission to Space." Test Track was still being tested my last trip. I rode Mission first and, well, it didn't make me motion sick, but I could see how it could make you motion sick, as they really do something to you, not just jerk your around. I really liked Test Track and rode it 3x ^^ It helps they have a single rider line! I then took the monorail to Magic Kingdom where I rode one of my other favorites, "Splash Mountain." The lines were relatively nice and short. I LOVE Mickey's Philharmagic Orchestra!!!! I think that's my favorite of the 4 3D movies you can see at Disney. It's hilarious and actually sort of sweet at times, though the Lion King bit was the weakest of the shorts. I ended up going on a lot of rides and got inspired by the Aladdin's carpet ride so that now I am working on a wrong sketch. I was bad and skipped lunch, though I did notice there are a lot more vegetarian choices at the parks!
My second day was MGM, where I wanted to ride Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Aerosmith Rockin Roller Coaster. I road the Tower 3x and the coaster 4. I actually like the Tower better, but my last trip was so perfect I didn't want to risk ruining the perfection. If you ever get a choice, so sit in the front row, it's soooooo much better. The 2nd trip was the scariest, where we sat in pitch black for a few minutes at the bottom after the ride stopped and they decided to unload us a different way. lol I love being taken up and dropped again and again. The coaster is an actual coaster and does have loops. It's quite well designed, though I think the ride in the back is waaaaay too jarring. I really liked sitting towards the front though. I finally went to see some of the productions and they were quite cute. The woman playing Ariel had a lovely voice and the puppetry really worked and was fabulous. The Belle was quite pretty and very good at dancing. Being the sap I am, I cried during the show. After some more rides, I went back to Epcot to see the World Showcase. Mitsukoshi is soooooo different, lol. (And yes, I was amused it was a Mitsukoshi.) The actual Mitsukoshis are mostly fashion and I couldn't imagine it selling some of the same toys. It was like a bit of the toy section, the tourist section and a tiny drop of one of the food sections combined. (Though some of the touristy things they were selling I've only seen before at Oriental Bazaar really) Pocky was $3!!!!!!!!! WTH?!?!?! I know the dollar is weaker, but still! o_O Lots of anime things for sale, with the big series being Yu-Gi-Oh, Inuyasha, Dragon Ball and a tiny bit of Seed. I squeed over the Seed. lol Gah, I nearly forgot, I also got to try soft drinks from around the world. We so need Kingley from Israel. Those Israelis know how to make a refreshing lemon soda! *is jealous* The Japanese 'vegeta something or other' was quite good and tasted similar to Water Salad. Maybe it's the same thing with another name. lol The watermelon soda from China was interesting. It tasted like carbonated watermelon and wasn't too sweet. The same can't be said for the lychee soda from Thailand and the Fanta from Costa Rica. WAAAAAY too sugary! Finally, there is Beverly from Italy. Do not drink this as it is among the nastiest sodas I have ever tried. I think Be Well is the only thing I have ever had worse. (Beverly just burns and want to was out the taste while Be Well I literally almost spit out.) Beverly has the burning sensation of hard alcohol plus carbonation! What a concept!
My third day was Animal Kingdom, which was under construction my last trip. It's a really really nice zoo. I adore the Bronx zoo, but Animal Kingdom is so much larger and it just seems more natural since they have more space. Disney also does a good job of getting the animals very close to you, without making it seem like there is any space separating you. I had a lot of fun on the safari ride and doing the two wildlife trails, despite sudden downpours. Dinosaur was interesting. Large animatronic dinosaurs thundering at you can actually sort of be startling. My favorite ride was Kali River Rapids. I went on it 3x and 2 of those times was in the "Get You Absolutely Soaking Wet Seat." While it was warm, we were also wearing rain ponchos on the ride so only my pants were completely soaked. The ride is still really good and it gets you soaked in a more fun way than just going under waterfalls like on most amusement park raft rides. I liked the 3-D Bugs movie, I was amused by the Primeval Whirl, though my mom did not like it at all. The Festival of the Lion King was extremely well done and between the acrobatics and the songs was quite a spectacle. I would say Animal Kingdom is weakest on restaurants in my opinion. I'm also looking forward to Expedition Everest, Disney's newest "mountain" which I took some pictures of. lol
Our final adventure was the flight home, which got delayed 2 hours. >.< I personally HAVE NO IDEA how Orlando's airport was rated one of the best for food and services. The little hub of 30 gates we were out at had a bar, a Burger King, a Cinnabon, a Starbucks, and a random fast food place. Now, I do adore Starbucks, but they're not exactly healthy. ^^;; So since we were stuck at the airport for so long, my dinner consisted of a caramel frappacino and a piece of key lime cake. (Which was delicious, oh Starbucks, how I love thee!) On the bright side, our flight did make it out and we only sat on the tarmac in NY after landing for 15 minutes and another 30 minutes for our lugagge. >.<;;; *so misses Japan where it seems like everything is more efficient, or hell even Kennedy!!!*

Date: 2004-12-11 07:46 pm (UTC)ahem.
You don't want to go there. I say this because I care! Do you really want to become a fat, bearded vaguely female creature that steals strollers and drives around in an ECV? Because if you get into pins, you will. No Rachel, NO!!

Date: 2004-12-11 09:29 pm (UTC)Between anime, dolls and trips to Japan, I think I have enough money holes. lol
The best way to put it, is I find myself wanting pins of characters/series I like. (like I just want sappy pins of Aladdin with Jasmine, I don't want either one separate or anyone else from the series) I don't really care if a pin is common or easy to get, what matters is the subject. So far I have 4 pins, The Hannukah one, cause it's Hannukah! A Jasmine and Aladdin one, though I meant to get the one where they are on the carpet. Fox and the Hound, and a Tron one for my husband since he adores Tron. lol
Oh and Phyllis gave me a Japan one years ago!
In FL, most of the pin people seemed to be small children so it was sort of cute. I imagine pin collecting is sort of like beanie babies, lol
So the pin people out there are scary? I overheard one Disney employee saying he wouldn't trade with someone, cause his pins were all special CA pins. lol

Date: 2004-12-12 01:33 am (UTC)I started on two sketches but need to re-draw in a larger pad as they are both great grandiose in scope. 1) involves a RWT/PoT trip to Disney and the other involves various RWT/PoT boys cast as Disney Princesses. XD

Date: 2004-12-12 12:03 am (UTC)Sounds like you had a great time - going on all the rides I'm too scared to go on! *likes simulators much better*

Date: 2004-12-12 01:40 am (UTC)And see most motion simulator rides do nothing for me, because it's like sitting in a box and being shook around and feels very fake for me. The ones at Universal were particularly underimpressive. lol
