After seeing [livejournal.com profile] twotone's post about making calzones for Valentine's Day, I decided to give it a try and... uhhh NEVER AGAIN or at least not until I have a lot more counter space! I spent 2 hours making fillings and rolling out dough and making calzones. Of course the recipe linked to only had simple fillings, but I had decided to be more unique. I made: sauteed portabello mushrooms with ricotta and parmesan cheese, arugula pesto, asparagus, and soy sausage all combined in various ways. They were delicious.

Today was my first class of Mommy and Me yoga. I had thought this would be a low key affair much like my PreNatal Yoga DVD. I was 100% wrong. At the end of the class I was exhausted and felt like I got a great work out. Plus the baby liked it!

Mmm, those calzones sound yummy!

Aww, Adina! The one of her laughing is especially cute. Nice to hear she enjoyed yoga class.

They were pretty yummy! My husband ate nearly all of them lol

It's challenging because she often makes super cute faces but they can be hard to photograph because she's so active lol She really loved seeing all the other babies at Yoga. I'm planning to join a mother-baby group nearby sometime in March.

They were really easy to make just time consuming. If you have the time you should give it a whirl! I made up the fillings on my own, but it's one of the things I love about pizza/calzones. They lend themselves to creativity.

Babies tend to have amazing flexibility, sort of like cats. But I was completely amused when she fell asleep on her boppy like that. I had just put her down a second so I could start on my lunch and looked over to find that. I love the way her arm is flung out.

Aw, sorry to hear the calzones were a pain! They look delicious and very nice, though.

Adina looks so cute and happy in her photos! Did she have any trouble adjusting from Florida to CT again?

If you have a lot of counter space so that you can roll out a lot at once and do simpler fillings/or have them pre-made that helps a lot. But I really wanted to try to do something special this year since last year I wasn't even home!

She's had a few difficulties but I think some of them were the way my mother in law liked to feed her. >>;; Adina is use to being practically prone when we feed her and my mother in law insisted on holding her more upright. So Adina took less and woke more frequently. We did learn the importance of a dark room though and now have blankets covering the bedroom windows. But I shouldn't complain, her long sleep is anywhere from 6-9 hours which is great for a 4 month baby.

It is, I think that was the first time she passed out on hers. Usually she uses it to help her sit up more or watch me in the kitchen.

How is your little one doing? Is he walking yet?

Noah used to sleep in his allll the time.

Yeah he's very good at walking xD. Talking is his new challenge. He says "I go!" and "ball"/"mall", "yeah yeah!" but is mostly not to into talking ^^;;

This was her first time sleeping in it. She's not a good sleeper during the day time and usually prefers it very dark, which is one reason I've not gotten as many sleeping baby pictures recently.

Have you tried baby sign? Walking is so exciting, though a little scary because then they are mobile and can get into trouble.

You should try making them, if you made fillings ahead of time or used more pre-made ones, they're not so awful to make.

I just love the way her bib is askew, it's like "Mmmm food is done... zzzzz"

I think they were delicious? Kennis ate nearly all of them. lol Hopefully next Valentine's I will be in my own house with a bigger kitchen and I can get Adina to help me with the cutting out hearts... or that might be wishful thinking lol

I really have to figure out how to share videos so you can see Adina in action. She's not as tiny as she once was, but has so much more personality. I'm truly lucky, my baby is very happy and engaged.

The 1 calzone I ate was very good. Kennis enjoyed all the other ones.

Adina makes me super happy, especially when she is smiling.

Awwww ... Adina's just keeps getting cuter! And even as tiny as she is ... I love her little 'chubby baby rolls';-) I think this is one of the great thing about digital cameras now ... you can just erase the ones of the baby (or dog -- as we try taking pictures of Buddy) where their head is turned. I think when I take pictures like that -- it's 1 of 5 or 6 that turn out.

The calzone filling you made sounds like - el yum! I was thinking of going out & getting Mexican for lunch, but now it may have to be Italian!

She moves so fast sometimes it can be so difficult to get good pictures. I think to myself that taking all those flower and doll pictures paid off in terms of patience with baby pictures. I usually keep even the bad ones on my computer just because I like having every picture (And I secretly like some of the ones where she is pulling a face, it makes me think of Calvin) but I prefer to share the cute ones lol She definitely has round round cheeks now and her arms and legs have some baby fat on them so they don't look so spindly like when she was first born. I'm sure I will be out to CA at some point and you can see her then!

Ohhhhh Mexican ♥ That is one thing I miss, the selection of places out here is pretty awful. Though of course I prefer more Southwestern/Tex-Mex to true Mexican cuisine I think.

Mostly, she is a very happy baby. I feel very fortunate.

I swore I was not going to try calzones again, and yet I find myself contemplating it for our company on Sunday.

Definitely! Of course, it's probably partly (or mostly~) her environment, because you guys are so caring and loving. That always helps make for a happy baby!

Well, I'm sure they'd be thrilled, if they look and taste so delicious!

I don't know, I think she is a naturally happy baby. :D They do say that eating chocolate makes your baby smile more lol

I hope so, my friend who had a baby in August is hopefully visiting. :D

That sounds like an awesome reason to make calzones~

I am so impressed by the hearts! They look - and sound - delicious! :-)

Aww, Adina looks so happy - though so knocked out in the last one! Actually, she looks a little like she's trying for a disco pose...

Quick question: what was the title of that book you have of vegetarian restaurants in Japan? One of the friends I met up with on this trip has a vegetarian friend who has a lot of trouble eating out in Japan, and I thought it might be helpful if I suggested the book to her.

Website for the book here (http://www.veganjapan.net/pocketguide-e.html)

It's most helpful for Tokyo to be honest and not as helpful depending on where else in Japan you are (like say Aomori or Okayama) I found a lot of places I like in Tokyo through it and several places in Kyoto. I love the place in Kichijoji we went, and I am also very fond of Eat More Greens in Azabu-Juban. Of course since I eat dairy, I also use D&D quite frequently for meals.

I couldn't resist when she just passed out. I thought it was so adorable. I loved how her hand was just reaching.

The hearts were such a pain but it did feel lovely to have made them successfully!

No problem, I'm happy to help another vegetarian. I know it can be a challenge in Japan, especially if you are vegan. If she ever wants advice on places, I'm happy to share regarding the restaurants I've been too.

omg those calzones look yummy! *launches self at screen and noms* I'm sure Kennis did justice to them--and glad you managed to pry one away from him.

Adina is soooo cute! She's looking more like Kennis every time you post pics. She's totally got his colouring.

I hope he really liked them. I wasn't with him last Valentine's and our Anniversary was something of a bust last year so I wanted to find some way to thank him and show him how much I care.

Her hair is much redder than Kennis', but they're both so much lighter than me. I'm waiting to see if she keeps her eyes light like him. For now, I expect her to stay light since her eyebrows are so light and it would be weird for her hair to come in dark. Me and my siblings were all born with black hair lol

BTW we're still hoping to do Japan, but it will prob be Sept or Nov.
