*throws volume 02 of XXXholic across the floor and repeats mantra that it's not real just like the Chobits/AL connection*
Since I'm home alone I've been reading my translated manga and I finally am reading XXXholic and as I read volume 02 I had a sickening thought that no one I know has shared...
EDIT with other possible conclusion...
I think they killed Akira and Utako. ;;_;; Those evil wenches of Clamp.... Waaaaaah and while I know that I'm like the only person who likes Akira best, I'm still surprised no one has mentioned this before or warned me.
For those who are curious where this idea comes from....
When Watanuki goes to see the fortuneteller with Yuuko, the fortuneteller says that if one puts their heart into their cooking it will be sufficient. This is the first connection to Akira, who I believe says that exact same line to the student who wants to bake an apple pie for the teacher she is in love with. Next, the fortune teller says that Watanuki gets his cooking from his father, whose cooking couldn't be beat. And which Clamp character was known for their cooking? Now I'm sure you're all just thinking that I'm being insane, except this is Clamp, and there is no such thing as coincidence, only hitsuzen, and it would certainly explain why Watanuki is so adept at housework. Akira use to have to do all the housework with his mothers. ;;_;; Akkkkkkiiiiiiiiirrrrrraaaaaaa!!!! Utaaaaako!!! At least Syaoran is likely to survive Tsubasa >.<
EDIT I've thought some more about things and the other likely candidate is that Watanuki is in fact Eriol and Kaho's son. For reasons in support of this, see my 2nd response to

Date: 2004-08-25 06:21 pm (UTC)Seriously, though, nice deduction--it hadn't even occured to me as a possibility while I was reading. I think the first point may be debatable, since Yuuko herself points out that anyone who was orphaned would have to become good at housework and self-reliant. The rest, though, is pretty tantalizing. And Watanuki as Akira and Utako's child...it somehow works. ^^

It's more than killing my fav het couple, they're both two of my all time favorite characters.
An orphan would be decent at housework and self-reliant, but I believe Yuuko talks about how Watanuki is particularly good at it and secretly likes it. Something that isn't true of everyone.
Vol. 2 of CCD, in the last story, Akira talks about the importance of putting your heart into what you're cooking.
One thing is, how does this work with the timeline.... Is Yuuko misremebering Subaru's age or is this not "our" Subaru and is this even "our" Akira and Utako. Of course Clamp fucked up their own timeline in AL/Chobits so who knows....
Unless........
Date: 2004-08-25 06:45 pm (UTC)He could possibly be Eriol and Kaho's son from CCS. We don't know how far past the end of CCS XXXholic takes place. For support of this theory, we have the fact that Eriol was also very good at cooking, he's good at everything, and it's remarked upon how Fujitaka is like that as well and the second piece of evidence is Yuuko talks about how it's in Watanuki's blood to see spirits... It would also nicely completes things by tying together Clow's descendant finding Yuuko....

Date: 2004-08-25 11:04 pm (UTC)holic did surprised at lot in its last installments. For a manga published in the young magazine there's a lot of emphasis on the link between watanuki and Doumeki and how their association is fate-ish

I still think Watanuki's parents are going to turn out to be crossover characters.
As for Watanuki and Doumeki being linked by fate.... a lot of shonnen series seem to have a really large female readership. Though isn't Watanuki also connected to Yuuko by fate?

why not... but since AU is canon I don't think it does matter. Plus we never get to see Subaru and Hokuto's parents, who died very young.

Shonen mag and WJ are read by women. But young magazine is really male teenagers oriented with babe in bikini on the cover. there's not a single story who could appeal a woman inside since most the plots are about guys trying to get laid. Chobits which was published in the same magazine didn't have a strong male/male bond. But I agree the male friendship is something commun and praised in shonen

It's different with Doumeki. In the rest of the second volume I think Yuuko explained that Doumeki and Watanuki have a really deep bond because they complete each other, together they are the A-team. In consequence ghosts and wondering spirits influence the mood around them to make them hate each other and separate them when it's obvious they could have been friend from the beginning
Thus few nice moments with Doumeki falling in Watanuki arms or Watanuki wanting to be friendly with Doumeki but falling miserably and making his weird face instead.
