Less challenging than I first thought...
Jan. 13th, 2010 11:18 amComment and I'll give you a letter, then you have to list ten people/places/things you love that begin with that letter, afterwards post it on your journal and fill out letters of your own.
bwinter gave me the letter "V" at first I was a bit put off and then suddenly remembered a ton of things I love which start with that letter. Oddly enough quite few were twofers. lol
Vacation!Yeah, I like the song by the Go-Gos as well but I mean actual vacation here How can anyone not love going on vacation, escaping for a little while form the humdrum of ordinary life. Right now I ought to be working on my vacation to Japan in about a month lol >>;
Vegetables I love nearly all vegetables, there are one or two I am less fond of than others but overall they are one of my favorite things to eat.
VanillaOnce again I like the song as well but this is more about the scent/flavor I am always looking for the perfect vanilla perfume to wear, one that reminds me of vanilla extract and baking without being too foodie and overwhelming. So far my favorite is Antique Lace and XCDL13.
Violet Another favorite scent, color and flower. I had one of the rooms in my house painted violet, the former computer room where I use to spend a good portion of my time. I love the scent of violets and the flowers are another favorite of mine.
Violas No, not the instrument, this is another flower. It's in the pansy family and grows well around here and in a myriad of colors. I try to always plant them every year. Plus they're edible! :D
Volks OK sometimes they drive me up the wall with their ridiculous policieslike not shipping Sato dolls overseas and the ever increasing prices for Dolpas , but overall I will always have a soft spot for them and their very well made dolls. For those who don't know they are a Japanese company despite the German sounding name who make Asian Ball joint dolls and have some wonderful engineering.
Vermont Home of delicious cheese, crazy liberals, Ben and Jerry's and maple syrup, how can you go wrong with that combination? I'm really hoping that next year Hubby and I can go away for the High Mowing seed convention there since we'll be further north.
Vegetarianism While I don't make a big deal about it on my LJ, I'm a proud vegetarian and have been one since 1991. I don't really miss meat and I am quite happy without it thank you very much. I became one for a myriad of different reasons which have evolved and changed somewhat since 1991, but it's a decision I'm glad I've made despite it sometimes being a huge challenge, like when I'm in Japan.
Villains While I often prefer the good guys more, if the villains suck or are not very threatening the story often falls apart. How can you have the great battle of good vs. evil if your evil isn't interesting or threatening? And occasionally the villains are the reason you watch something like Gi-Joe. >>;
Video Killed the Radio Star Classic song from the 1980's that kicked off MTV and which I've been known to listen to on repeat.
I was also given the letter "Q" by
isachi
Q from Next Generation/Voyager/Star Trek is probably my favorite character in that verse. He causes trouble is mischievous and brings out the slasher in me since really there is no other way to describe his feelings for Picard than a crush.
Quince it wasn't until recently I knew what quince flowers looked like, but I learned what they were on a recent trip to Japan and they're quite lovely. I also discovered that unlike my sister in law I actually like quince butter.
Question as in I have a question, one of my favorite ways to start sentences as anyone who knows me can tell you lol
Que Sera Sera the song sung by Doris Day in one of my favorite movies The Man Who Knew Too Much as well as a song that for reasons I am not sure of, I enjoy listening to. I think I like the message of trying to just live life instead of always worrying about the future even if it something I am not able to do.
Queens the borough in New York City where my aunt, uncle and favorite cousins use to live and home of amazing falafel and delicious Italian Ice. ♥
Quinoa the only grain that is actually kosher for Passover and this gets love for that reason alone. It also tastes really yummy with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. ♥
Quilts! preferably of the down variety to keep me cozy in the winter but I am also fascinated by quilting and and have tried my hand at it a few times. I saw an amazing exhibit on quilting when I was in San Francisco.
Quack Not the one who is a bad doctor, but the sound ducks make. I am quite good at quacking like a duck from several years of walking past lakes to get to my high school. To me it always sounded like the ducks were laughing at me by quacking and it is a sound that always makes me happy, just like sheep baaing. lol
Quest for Camelot which I am not quite sure why I love because at times it really drags, I think it's because the female lead is sort of sweetly naive and earnest and stubborn while the male lead is snarky and becomes protective of her despite himself and is voiced by Cary Elwes.
Qwerty the only type of keyboard I know how to type on and as I use a computer all the time, like to post this, it is quite useful. My husband uses Dvorak and I can't stand it ~.~

Date: 2010-01-14 05:26 am (UTC)The difference is how the keys are laid out, supposedly Dvorak is supposed to allow faster typing speeds (Qwerty was actually created to limit how fast you could type back when people used actual typewriters and keys would stick) I can touch type but I don't type the way you're supposed (I fail at proper typing, don't use the home row and only use a few of my fingers actually lol) so switching to the Dvorak layout is quite hard for me.
But yes, having done V and Q I am rather proud of myself at the moment lol
Anyway, you can have "H" :P

Date: 2010-01-14 03:02 pm (UTC)I find once you leave Tokyo, being a vegetarian in Japan can be a challenge unless you know a lot of Japanese. It's the hardest thing about going to places like Tohoku. If I lived in a house and could cook, I would be fine, but making my own food with hotel facilities is just not an option.
I have a guide to actual vegan places in Japan (some of which are amazing) and it's help me find my new favorite places to eat in Tokyo and Kyoto, but it just doesn't list anything for places like Hirosaki or Yonezawa
and it has no map for Nagano ~.~and I am not sure of the author's Japanese skills since he place in Sendai did have some vegetarian things but not everything was vegetarian.If the yogurt isn't a fruit flavor, it generally won't have gelatin in it.
