The bagels turned out surprisingly good, though I think next time I need to bake them longer to make the outside crisper. The inside had the right texture though which is a major accomplishment. I also baked some cookies.. because I needed cookies.

I harvest my first cauliflower head! I forgot to cover it so it did not blanch properly and I will need to be more careful with the newest head. It tasted fine cooked but was a little mealy raw.

Cookie and Basil have a vet appointment later today. Shhhhhh don't tell them.

Congrats on the bagel success and the cauliflower! So what happens when you don't cover cauliflower? Does it go green?

(good luck to the kitties!)

Actually... yes it does get greener and sort of more yellow. It's weird. But once you cooked it, it tasted fine.

Thanks, it is usually more painful for me than for them. lol They're just getting their check up.

My guess, (not being an expert on baking by ANY means) is that longer wouldn't make crisper. Starting out higher temp and then lowering would make crisper?

I'm not sure about that though, but it might be worth considering...

Ohhh, I want your recipe for bagels. I used to make them once upon a time but I never was completely satisfied with them.

Your garden sounds amazing. I wish I could have that here, but there are so many rabbits I stopped trying. I want to see pics.

Mmm, bagels. Congratulations on getting the inside right - the wrong texture can completely ruin a bagel, I think. And yes, everyone needs cookies sometimes. ^_^

Aww, are your cats okay? A check-up?

I'm not sure that would work. Its the first few bagels I made that are not quite crisp enough which makes me think it is the baking since I was not as good about timing them. I also was not as good about getting the water at a boiling temperature which might also be affecting.

I shall let you know how my second try goes since if Kennis is willing to eat them it is much cheaper to make bagels than to buy them as theyre up to $10 a dozen now and it is under $10 to buy enough supplies to make 10 dozen bagels lol

I'm using the one from the New York Cookbook right now, so I'm not sure if I can share it. I used flour for the pans since I had no cornmeal though and mixed white and wheat flour because I have both. I need to share the picture, they do look like bagels.

I need to share pictures. My mom's house has a huge problem with woodchucks/rabbits and I just bought a fence to put around it. They are a bunch of my tomato seedlings. ~.~

Around here I am convinced that the garlic is keeping out the critters. I'm planning to grow a wall of it around my mom's come Fall. Luckily, I feel like you can enver have enough garlic lol

I think cookies are needed most of the time! I have ice cream I bought for Kennis and the end of my pudding but it is not the same an I wanted cookies lol

The cats are just having a check up. Tomorrow I get bloodwork but they both seem healthy. Cookie gained 3 pounds which is good and Basil lost a few ounces which is less good. But both seem really alert which is the important thing.
