So before I get dressed and head over to the DMV.. I thought everyone might enjoy a few pictures of my yard so you could see what my neighbors were complaining about. lol

I'm also prob going to be doing a LJ flist cut before I go out to Utah.

The front yard beds, I want to get more things planted but not sure what yet. I am thinking of putting in berries on the side.

I need to get rid of the sand and dirt here and plant something before we get all weeds. I am thinking something innocuous live clover.

These are my two amazing hydrangea who survived the insulation project. (the other 2 are gone) The one in the back was bare ground after the house got worked on and the one in front was a single stick. Neither flowered this year but I have high hopes for next year! :D

Lots of basil! The largest plant in the back I bought as a 3-4 inch plant from Whole Foods. The others in the front I bought with [livejournal.com profile] twotone . The cilantro is from a combo of that trip and a visit to a nursery near me and was tiny! Everything else is from seed! It's mostly arugula and radishes. I have tow tiny corns just cause I was curious if they would come up and I might have some spinach.

Peas! I love peas because they grow so easily and taste so good. The large green plants behind them I think are green beans and the tiny little plant nearly hidden might someday become a cauliflower! :D

I think your yard looks nice, especially with those stone beds. And those stupid neighbors need to understand that gardens take years to evolve until they are in their final "Better Homes and Gardens" form.

The old houses in your neighborhood reminds me a lot of mine, except that we're on a bunch of hills here. :-)

It's the beds that started the trouble for us. ~.~ We're still duking it out with the city. It's not happy.

I don't know if we will ever be Better Homes and Gardens but we might be Organic Gardening or something about urban vegetable gardening :D I need to order garlic for the Fall soon. This time I am going to remember how long it takes for the bulbs to be harvestable. >>;

Our neighborhood is nice that way. We're actually towards the top of a large hill and the round slopes gently from where are. To the left of us the land rises more steadily and north of us there is a huge drop off. The part of the city we live in is known as Highlands. :D

God, I wish my thumb was even half as green as yours. *eats your garden*

I really don't know what the hell your neighbors' problem is. The beds are gorgeous. >\

I think they look wonderful. Your neighbors seriously need to get lives and stop meddling in yours.

I know! I mean they looked off while they were being worked on, but they could have at least talked to us or waited until the work was done before filing a complaint. ~.~

I think I'm just lucky. >>;; I use to kill house plants all the time, but fortunately the seeds are doing pretty well. :D I'm so looking forward to being able to harvest my own arugula.

Yup! I mean it didn't look as nice when things were in the middle of being laid out, but yup.

And the problem is once the city is involved it can't get uninvolved. ~.~

I know you'd think they would be happy because we use to have like weedy grass before. lol

I so wish they would. I think this week end I am going to try to get some other veggies in the ground, I'm looking for things we can hopefully get harvestable by November or can get into the little portable green house I bought. >>;

Have the flowers and pretty plants managed to quell their complaints, or are the neighbors still being a pain?

Also, I was curious... what do you do when you go on trips? Do you have a timed sprinkler or some other method for keeping the plants watered?

At this point it doesn't matter. Once it goes to the City we have to deal with all sorts of bizarre regulations and they can't take back the complaint. In our case, it turns out the City has an easement extending 16 feet from the road onto our property and the outer wall is at 10 feet from the road ~.~ We're trying to get some sort of notice, but we might have to move the wall in two feet ~.~

We ask whoever is taking care of the kitties. Generally, Kennis and I both don't usually go away though which helps. But we will in September cause I don't want to lose my veggies! I am not sure what we will do with the tomatoes
