Since I don't want to do work..
Aug. 17th, 2006 10:12 amI figure I will post to LJ instead.
I'm alone in the office with no one expected in until the afternoon, and it's a lovely thing.
Lately, my mother and I have been ladies who lunch. It's a wonderful break in the day, to escape from the office to a nearby restaurant and eat something more appetizing than frozen food from Stop n Shop or pizza from the local place.
Restaurants
Chat 19 located in Larchmont, is a fun more new American place with a delicious brunch menu and little tables out on tne sidewalk. I would definitely go back again.
Coromandel located in New Rochelle, my current favorite local Indian place now that Dawat and their Malai Kofta has vanished, I love Coromandel's Lashun Gobi. I'd never been fond of cauliflower before but they've completely sold me. Their lunch buffet is a wonderful deal, and their dinners are well priced too.
Cosi located in New Rochelle, this is a chain, but a fun chain. They do mostly sandwiches and salads, but fortunately, I love both. It's a little crowded and noisy, but since it's a high-end counter-service/cafe place, it's not so surprising. If you eat marshmallows, their make your own s'mores look divine. I also loved their version of a frappucnio. lol
Golden Rod located in New Rochelle, this Chinese restaurant is willing to substitute veggie fried rice and veggie lo mein for "house" versions on their lunch menu, which gets all of my love. They use more vegetables than some Chinese places and their Fried Rice was probably the best I've ever had.
Red Lotus located in New Rochelle, this Thai place has terribly parking, high prices, but good food. I liked my meal, but I enjoyed the Thai place I went to with
chokingcufflink in Brooklyn more and it was cheaper too. o_O
Tequilla Sunrise located in Larchmont, it's a sad thing to say, but I've had better Mexican in Japan, (at 3 different places!) than I ever seem to be able to find here. The interiors are lovely, but also make noise echo, particularly when a mother's group with their toddlers is sitting near you. My meal had no flavor and was watery.
Turkish Meze located in Mamaroneck, I would NEVER EVER go back. While my soup was good, my main course was extremely mediocre, and the service was beyond bad. Perhaps if you're unemployed or want a long leisurely lunch, it's not a problem, but the restaurant had an issue with 1 hour lunches. It took forever to get our order taken, then forever to get my soup, and then even longer to get my main course. Heck, we even had a hard time getting our BILL and my mother had to go up to a waitress and ask for it. This is the only place I have ever been in the US where we have not tipped 20%.
Water Color Cafe located in Larchmont, might be my favorite of all the places I've gone recently. While the fare is fairly traditional, the food is wonderful, and my french fries were homemade. <3 I only wish I'd had room for dessert, since I am sure their selections are fabulous. The decor was soft and beautiful.
Speaking of the area, anyone live around here and like the Gin Blossoms? *bites lip*
