So someone on DoA has decided they want to bring non-Volks dolls to Dolpa 19 despite both my attempts and Teraya-chan's to dissuade her. I like other brands of dolls, I adore my BlueFairies and like the head molds better than Volks. I love the way the bodies are more slender and look more mature without looking too mature. I adore my LaTiWhite and hope to get Atemu a little boyfriend and perhaps some enemies at some point and I want a LaTi Green. However, it's a Dolpa, Volks is arranging the space rental and doing all the leg work. It's their party and they get to set the rules and they specifically request you not bring other brands. This is not a general meet-up. This is not a debate. No one will care if you don't have a doll with you, but they will care and not in a good way if you bring a non-Volks doll.

I so don't want to be seen with someone who is rude enough to ignore a request like this. It's so embarrassing. I think it's awesome you love your (fill in the blank doll) just plan a Tokyo Meet-Up to share said doll(s). ~.~

In other news, I am mostly clean for Passover and now just need to make the matzoh crunch recipe I got from [livejournal.com profile] twotone <3

Yeah exactly. I have nothing against non-Volks dolls but they're not welcome at a Dolpa. If you want show off your non-Volks dolls plan another meet up or go to a non-Volks sponsored event like I Doll ~.~

*rolls eyes* If they ask you not to do something...uh, yeah. How hard is it to comply? I admit I have interest in going to Dolpha but what's held me back is not being able to bring any of my dolls because I like having them with me. *shrugs But it's not the end of the world and yanno, I can respect Volks asking people not to bring other dolls because -- they're running this show and paying for it. Of course they don't want other brands there.

Maybe she'll have got the message from what you said? I hope. >>;

Honestly, at a Japanese Dolpa it's even weirder since in general the Japanese own fewer non-Volks dolls than people here in the US.

I'm half tempted to say you're better off not having dolls at all at a Dolpa just because you spend so many hours waiting in line and trying to shop while carrying a doll gets old really really fast. It's not like a US Dolpa type event or a meet up.

If you have non-Volks dolls and want to go to a Japanese doll event, you should time for another type of doll show. They're not as large as Dolpa and Volks won't have any LEs, but other brands are welcome. The small Osaka I Doll in particular seems to always get a lot of Korean brands. :D

That's super rude, I suggest you ignore her at Dolpa like she ignored you (to avoid embarrassment).

Oh, I will if she brings non-Volks dolls. I don't want to be seen with someone that rude and be associated with them. ~.~

Good.

This whole situation has pissed me off since western people first found out that Volks doesn't like it when people bring other company's' dolls into their stores/parties.

I just don't see the point in it. Volks parties are supposed to be fun for Volks owners. Westerners do get this concept, no one bring s a PC to a Mac Con, or a Saturn to a Volkswagon Con ~.~

I agree with you. People like you and I get the concept and follow the rules, but it only takes one person to ruin it for all the good people.

Here it is (http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202415&page=3)

It's in the meet up section.

Well this is Dolpa 19 in Japan so the Shigetas aren't flying anyone anywhere lol Most of the employees there are from Tokyo and the few Kyoto people I am sure take the shinkansen since it is cheaper and more convenient. ^^;

However, I just think it's moronic and rude to explicitly do something like that and I really really don't want to be associated with someone like that. I seriously like other brands this is not an "elitist" thing, this is a politeness thing and if you want to show off your lovely non-Volks dolls and either live in Japan or are traveling specifically to Japan to attend doll events there are plenty of other non-Volks sponsored events where you can bring your dolls, or heck if you're flying already maybe you should go to an event in Korea. *sighs*

Also, great way for her to prove the Japanese population that westerners/gaijin in general are boorish and rude and will do whatever they want without thinking about others' wishes.

Glad you like it :) Yeah, it is surprisingly popular anime eh?

Yeah, anybody who doesn't have the same twisted thinking as her will be giving her weird looks etc...

It could be someone just being a schmuck. They're either a foreigner in Japan or a foreigner just going to Japan for an event. I really don't see why in either case they can't just bring their non-Volks dolls to a non-Volks event. It would solve the problem nicely.

And nope, this was in reference to Dolpa 19, which makes it even more embarrassing to me since there are so fewer foreigners there that one being an ass makes us all look like asses. ~.~

No one brings a PC to a Mac con or a Honda to Volkswagon Con. It's not that odd a concept. There are plenty of brand loyalty things here in the US as well. I just personally don't want to be seen with someone who is purposely being a schmuck.

*sighs*

"Schmuck" is kind. She's either an idiot or a jerk, and I avoid both sorts.

I'm not even a Volksy person, and I STILL get the damn concept. It's not hard to wrap your damn head around it.

I've seen used Unoa, Leeke and a variety of others at some of the used anime stores and I think one of the Closet Children. In general, which Korean brands are popular in Japan is not the same as which are popular here.

There is also a store in Osaka that specializes in Korean dolls only. :D

I don't get it -- it's a perfectly reasonable request on Volks' part. They're not asking you to prostrate yourself before the Dolfie Mother on your way in and swear never to buy a non-Volks doll, so why not just go along with it? (Hell, it would probably save your back a little bit to have a few less dolls in your carrier.)

If that matzoh crunch recipe is like the one I found Googling, that sounds kind of yummy. :d

But it would be sort of awesome if they did. >>;

I don't know which recipe version you found, but the one I make is delicious and super fast. It's even good if you're not celebrating Passover! :D

Let her shlep a bag of dolls in.

And then have shlep them as she is escorted out. Idiot.

Well, I don't think Volks necessary kicks you out, but I am sure they shoot you dark looks. I just don't want to be seen at an event in Japan with someone like that.
