Religion and other serious topics
Apr. 8th, 2008 10:54 amFirst, I'd like to thank everyone who was kind enough to respond to my last post.
If you don't feel comfortable reading a post about religion and about things you may or may not feel please don't read behind the lj-cut. After some careful thought based on issues I've seen arise repeatedly, 'd like to hope that anyone reading this LJ has the good sense and maturity to not read behind a LJ cut if they know it might upset them and to not share things behind an flock when nothing good will come of it. If I say something that you don't agree with I would prefer you rationally take it up with me. Perhaps I will see your point, perhaps you will see mine, none of us are perfect and as we are just going by things typed on a screen nuance can be lost and things can unintentionally come off harsher than meant.
Religion is generally one of those topics I try to avoid, I know the majority of people on my flist are nominally to fully Christian and I want to stress I think that is great. I don't expect any of you to give up your religion or change it in any way. But this is about what it is like being Jewish and not having an interest in Christianity.
For me, what really got under my skin yesterday was not their fervent belief in their religion, but the methods they tried to use. Like for the Jews for Jesus, they were trying to tap into their barely there Jewish antecedents by trying to claim as a Jew I should read the Book of Mormon because it was "written by Jews." ~.~ Statements like that sicken me and just make me see red. Even if we want to assume the Book of Mormon is completely and factually true, once those ancient "Jews" took Jesus into their hearts when he came to the New World and they left the faith. To me, they are no longer Jews, they're Mormons. And to even try to pretend otherwise I find insulting and chicanery. If they don't feel their religion is strong enough to try to convert me on its actual practice, why should I want to join it? This is why Jews for Jesus also disgusts me, they prey on the weak and try to muddle the waters and confuse things. Jews do not believe in the divinity of Jesus. I don't care if Jesus was Jewish. Jews do not believe in the divinity of Jesus.
That and we all know I just love to read gay porn on the internet. Speaking of which, I never thought I would live to see the day when I would say I've read gay underage (16) alien right to life m-preg.
