So I am now back to my MacBook and on a new 250 GB drive. I also am trying to work out all the bugs from using a back up from Feb 07 and trying to figure out what I lost. Xjournal, the LJ client I'd like is now gone, and Spaceward Ho refuses to accept my registration. ~.~ I've written an email in the latter case.

I still need HandBrake and possibly some other software I've downloaded.

I can't believe how many MP3s I adore I am missing. I so need to get them off my ipod. I'm also missing so much 24 ^_^; I lost Densha Otoko as well, but only about 1/3 of Geass. I need to get all the writing and such settled.

I think now I am going to be trying an outfit my husband had found out in CA to recover my data. While the people in Canada seemed very nice, their success rate as 80% and they'd only done 1 160 GB laptop drive before which is a bit nerve wracking. The place in CA has a "slow method" where instead of days it takes 2-4 weeks and then their prices are comparable to Canada. They've worked on more 160 GB drives as well as have a higher success rate.

So wish me luck as I send out my drive that the things I want are recoverable.

Wow, so you're gonna go through with data recovery, eh? I researched it when Atobe died but died myself when I saw the prices. .^^;; Right now, Atobe's in the hands of my friends who used to be in the Air Force. They said they might be able to get some data off for me. Should ask them how it's going......

Anyway, good luck with getting your stuff back!

It is really expensive but I realized I am willing to pay $800 to get back 9 months worth of pictures and the few parts of fics I've written and don't have a back up of elsewhere.

It's a very very hard lesson to have learned and I am going to be much more careful about back ups in the future.

I hope you're able to get some data from your drive too. It so sucks when this happens. The ironic thing is I was just starting to delete programs off my drive so that I could do the long held off back up when it happened.

Yeah, if it's memories like photos then it'll definitely be worth it.

After something like this happens, you either get paranoid, or you keep telling yourself you need to backup but still don't always do it. I fall into the latter category. .>_>

I'm not going to be as good about backing up say media files, but I do plan to sync my ipod more often and I am going to look into Flckr for helping to protect photos.

I've already started backing up elsewhere all my writing and other such information to prevent something like this from happening again.

The photos are irreplaceable. I'm very sentimental and some of the pictures are of my now dead cat Nutmeg so I really would like them back if at all possible. I've told my husband that Data Recovery can be my late birthday gift from him. >>;

Flickr's good. I use them for my photos. If your ISP is AT&T Yahoo!, you get a free pro account, which helps a lot.
