The scariest part was since I am alone with Adina without TV I was worried it was the townhome coming apart because my husband didn't feel it and we don't have a TV and the US Geological survey took about 20 mins to show it. Once I knew it was definitely a quake I felt a lot better. Adina just drank milk all through it and went to bed XD; The townhome swayed as did the blinds but nothing fell, not even my barely balanced things. I've been through worse in Japan, it was just very unexpected.

*hugs* Glad to hear you guys were okay! Yeah, this is probably one time when it's helpful to have a TV... I happened to have a cable guy over to fix our TV/internet connection, and the first thing we saw was a news report on the earthquake. Daniel was at work and hadn't even known about the quake until he saw someone mention it online!

I think I just would have been happy to have another adult to confirm that something really did happen and it was not likely to be my townhome collapsing lol Did you feel it?

BTW are you thinking of going to Coventry this week end despite possible hurricane or no?

I've been hearing fragments of things from friends all over the East Coast, but it really threw me at first! I normally expect to hear about hurricanes in the US, maybe flooding, but not earthquakes! (Well, not over in the east, anyway...) I see from your comments that you and Adina are okay. Thank goodness. *hugs*

It was pretty powerful down here in MD, but then, we were only about 100 miles from the epicenter. And now we have Irene to look forward to....

Yup, I felt it. I was alone at the time, though (cable guy hadn't arrived yet) so I only got confirmation it was an earthquake when I saw the news on TV.

I don't know if we'll be going to Coventry if the weather's bad. It's weird, I've lived in rainy climes for most of my life and I still don't have a proper pair of rainy-weather footwear.

(Daniel DOES have boots, but generally just wears the same pair of shoes he does for work. I find this maddening.)

Yeah I don't have rain weather boots either, I just tend to wear crocs. I guess I could wear my snow boots since they work for rain if I can find them...

For me it is more, how bad is the rain to drive in XD; I sort of want to go because Labor Day week end I am going to NYC. Will you be going on the 11th? I'd love to see you and Daniel.

Also when do you get back in October?

Hurricanes are fairly the norm. They've never been a huge deal where I live, but that is partially because Long Island has always taken the brunt of the storm for us. We've had quakes before, I remember one from Junior High, but it's hard when I couldn't confirm what I felt and worried it was something wrong with the rental. (I've seen carpenter ants.)

But yeah, Adina didn't notice, she wanted her bottle and it was nap time. >>;

I'm sure, sumeragiskank said they were evacuated from her building in DE. It was strong enough here that my townhome swayed but I don't think anything fell. And yeah, Irene, I need to see if we will be getting a visit from her up here, though by the time she comes she is likely to have lessened greatly.

The quake was smaller than the ones we had in '04 when I was visiting you and didn't last as long, it just was a lot less expected. The townhome was really swaying, but Adina didn't notice at all and was just like "Feed me now, Mom!"
