So today I got my real crown after having a temp crown put in while the in-laws were here in December. Getting the actual crown was not as bad as the temp one and was overall not as bad as I expected as there was no real drilling and no injections and while the tooth aches a little bit.. overall it was not so painful. I also had one of my teeth sanded down some because it was pointy and supposedly the reason for my tooth cracking in the first place.

I admit it makes me feel a lot better to know that other people I know, people who are younger than me, also have teeth problems like this. I was afraid that this like my failing eye sight and my recent spate of gray hairs was another sign of aging. ;;_;; But now I think it was more bad luck, and the eye doctor did say my vision wasn't so bad it was mostly needing light and my grays aren't so noticeable yet... I think. :/

I'm testing some Arcana scents today because I want to make it through the bottles I own and am not sure of, since I'd rather part with those before I deal with the imps.

Yesterday I successfully made bagels from scratch! Let me just say now the hardest parts are: rolling them out to make them all even and the boiling part. And yes for those who don't know, to make a bagel correctly, you need to actually boil them for a couple of minutes on each side.

My goal for the day other than more cleaning is to sit down and plan an itinerary for Japan and work on my doujinshi! Go me! :D

Congrats on the bagels! :D

You think getting a crown is bad... I've had a crown for a few years now, and was about to get it replaced this year when they discovered that there was so much decay under there, they have to remove the tooth entirely. I'm seeing a dental surgeon this Thursday... not looking forward to this at all. :( I'm barely into my thirties and already I'm losing teeth!

Thanks you should try it, they're actually pretty fun to make, but then secretly I like playing with yeast.

I had thought it was bad... but now I'm feeling like maybe it's not so awful, it was just very scary since it involved my tooth cracking off o_O;

Having a tooth actually removed sounds pretty awful, though I admit my bottom teeth are also awful crowded together. Though some people have teeth removed when wisdom teeth come in because they just don't fit. I think hubby and my sister had those taken out.

Another friend was just sharing how she got some sort of awful infection when getting her most recent crown and I'm just so thankful that didn't happen to me now.

I also now have a plaster model of my teeth o_O;

Yeah I am 24 in a couple weeks and I have like 15+ cavities, had to get a root canal in December and I need to get a crown on that tooth when I can afford it.

Oh and the tooth that I got the root canal on and I need a crown for was also a really bad cavity before that had a hole in it then had a piece break off which they had to build back up. It was also infected.

That sounds so awful and incredibly painful. I hear that those sorts of infections can be among the most painful a person can get. It makes me very anxious that something is going to go wrong with my new crown.

I've always had lots of cavities all my life, but this was the first time a piece of tooth actually came off and while this crown didn't end up being so bad it was still not an experience I am excited to have repeated. The dentist was recommending getting another crown on another tooth in the future and it does not sound like a lot of fun. I am going to try to be more careful when I chew to prevent something like that and it has definitely gotten me to brush my teeth more and think about what I eat and drink. ;;_;;

I'm 28 and have grey hairs, and I am pretty sure that recent studies show that it has nothing to do really with age and environment, but that greying in women is mostly genetic. Though I kinda like mine, they're really shiny.

I'm missing a molar, it is the only dental issue I have ever had thanks to my wisdom teeth growing in sideways and splitting it. That infection was not fun, but Percoset is your friend.

I think Percoset makes me nauseous. ;;_;; I generally don't do well on prescription drugs and they tend to make me nauseous and drugged out of my mind.

Getting a crown isn't as bad as it could be but does suck. Right now my tooth is being super sensitive to hot and cold and it is most unpleasant.

I had no grays until the last year or so and now I have so many... I am tempted to start dying. >>;; Do you think I could get away with black hair?

Yeah, my wisdom teeth had to be extracted in 2005 (i.e. they couldn't just yank them)... and less than a month after that, I had to get a root canal in one of my bottom back teeth because the nerve got infected or something, and then I got a crown on that same tooth (the one that's getting removed this week). It was an expensive year.

I just remember how thoroughly miserable I was after the wisdom teeth extraction. I'm guessing that this extraction isn't supposed to be as awful, since they're putting me under local anaesthetic rather than the nitrous oxide (?) that they gave me last time. I'm just... not looking forward to this.

What, you're not going to go for anime hair? ;)

I used to use a shampoo from Japan that was supposed to put subtle blue, green, or red tints in your (black) hair. After I left home, I think my mom inhereited it and had dark blue streaks in her hair where the dye soaked into the greying portions.

I don't know what happened to my wisdom teeth. I suppose one of them at least ended up coming in, as I remember it being extremely painful and suddenly understanding why babies get so upset when teething. I'm very grateful I have some sort of dental insurance now as crowns==expensive and I've no idea what other things cost. I did at one point want to look into that invisalign thing you had done but it was so much money. ;;_;;

When is the extraction going to be? I think my Aunt recently had a tooth removed and I don't think it was as bad as it could be? I know sometimes wisdom teeth don't come already in and it involves going into the jaw to get them out. (I want to say that is what happened to either hubby or my sister) so I would think that since this tooth is at least out that would help some. Dental work is just so unfun. And it really doesn't help that the week before my tooth broke, I had bad dreams involving my teeth falling out.

The problem with the anime look is I would need to strip the color from my mostly dark hair as otherwise nothing is going to show up lol

Did that look good or bad? lol My dad always claims back when he had a lot of hair he use to have blue highlights. o_O; My mom once used my sister's black hair dye and she looked awful with pitch black hair. (though it did cover all the grays XD; )

It's not so much gray so maybe the blue streaks would look good?

I've seen little elderly ladies in Japan with various shades of violet hair and all I can do is wonder if they're going to for the anime look XD;

IIRC, they gave me nitrous oxide for my wisdom teeth because they had to go into my jaw (plus they were taking out all four at once, and also they needed to keep me awake enough to direct me to open my mouth wider or smaller, etc). Gah.

The doctor said that the removal of the (non-wise) tooth this Thursday shouldn't be too traumatic, but I'm supposed to limit myself to soft foods for Thursday's dinner. I'd like to think I'll recover faster than I did with the wisdom teeth extraction... but I think they're putting in an artificial bone graft, which terrifies me a little.

Daniel is trying to cheer me up by telling me that I will be an awesome cyborg.

I think the teeth-falling-out dream is a universal one... Daniel and I have had it, and it's just such an awful creepy feeling.

I think it was a good look for my mom, but I've wanted blue-black hair since I was a teen so I may be biased. ;) Since mom and I have naturally black hair, it was pretty subtle on her, darkening her gray hair and only making the lightest hair blue.

Maybe you could play around with some hair dyes or hair color-enhancing things and see what looks best with your natural hair color?

Yeah the teeth falling out dream is supposed to signify stress among other things, but it just is particularly creepy when the next week a tooth actually cracks and falls out ;;_;;

The dentist said I can eat regular foods but it feels weird to chew on that side of my mouth still. I'm thinking of trying to get some milk so I can make hubby and omelette tonight and just having soup myself. So far the tea I'm drinking has felt soothing, which is something.

Maybe the bone graft thing is good? ..I am still a little confused by dental work, it makes me miss the good old days that just involved things like cavities.

Yeah the dentist was trying to make jokes while he was working on my teeth because I was so nervous. I nearly freaked when the temp crown broke into little pieces as I thought it was my tooth coming apart even more.

Do you know what brand from Japan you were trying? (since I'm going there soon) I think my hair is naturally a soft black so I'm thinking going a little darker might not be awful and my skin tone is a lot less olive and orangey than my mom's.

A lot of the dyes I see around me tend to be reds or medium browns and I'm not sure that is really what I want to go for. I'm not fond of the tea stain color you see so much in Japan. I swear on some people it looks like they dyed their hair Cheetos color which is not a look I want to go for.

You're so awesome making your own bagels!

I'm pretty damn sure I'm older than you & everyone else who reads your blog. ;-)

I've *always* had bad teeth. I have many, many crowns. And a year & a half ago, I had the toothache from hell right after finishing my radiation treatments. Guess what? I needed a root canal.

You're not supposed to eat stuff like sticky, gummy candy when your temporary crowns are in; but because I have so damn many crowns -- I just avoid stuff like caramel, etc. because I don't want the crowns yanked out of my teeth. However, I do love marshmallows ... really, really good ones ... especially the ones from France.

It was pretty bad, I was having trouble sleeping it hurt so much. Forget eating anything overly hot or cold.

I am sure your crown will be fine, the only reason I put the crown off is because I can't afford the $250, and ended up getting it filled for no charge (to me) but I can't eat hard things on it for fear of it cracking.

I actually don't mind getting work done on my teeth (not that I in any way enjoy it), even the root canal was nothing but a really long cavity drill n' fill that required several trips. And the relief was totally worth it.

Hot things are helping me some, but my mouth is soooo achy and I am convinced like every tooth is chipped even though I know they are not.

My crown cost a lot more than $250 >>;;

I hate dental work and now I am being neurotic and I'm convinced every other tooth is chipped and needs a crown as well lol Probably in a day or two I will feel better, my teeth can just be sensitive.

Thanks, they ended up being quite tasty, I tried one of them. I might try doing it once a week and next time I will try to get some pictures.

I don't know, I'm older than people think :P There are a few people on my flist definitely older than me, but I'm not about to out them. lol

I've always had bad teeth, but in the past that always just meant getting lots of cavities. I think though needing a crown scares me because it's like a new stage in my teeth problems. Right now the tooth/my mouth is aching but I tend to have very sensitive teeth. I am also convinced that every single one of my other teeth are chipped and need a crown, but I think Ia m just being neurotic.

Yeah, I was super careful when I had the temp crown about what I ate and I'm actually going to try avoid eating a lot of sticky things from now on. Luckily I'm also trying to cut our corn syrup and a lot of gummi things have gelatin which I can't eat any way.

That's interesting that your mouth hurts...even when I got my root canal and my tooth was still a bit infected it wasn't even sore afterwards.

Well you can afford it better than me :p. But that still sucks :/. My dental plan is pretty good, I only had to pay like $50 for my root canal and nothing for my fillings and cleanings.

Dental work is so much money though ;;_;; We have a plan and get reimbursed some amount, but we have to pay first. I have no idea how it works with crowns.

My teeth/mouth tends to be very sensitive. For a while I had to use sensitive teeth toothpaste, so it's really not a surprise that it hurts after dental work. It hurt after the temp crown too, I think this time it has to do with the cement to keep the crown in place touching something, that and they are trying to change the shape of my teeth since supposedly one my teeth (at least one) is too long and thus why my tooth cracked in the first place. So some of the pain might also be my bite re-adjusting.

Yeah if our plan wasn't so good I'd probably put it off more, but I really do have bad cavities, I have at leas 1 cavity between each tooth...my dentist seemed pretty amused/surprised ^^;;

That stinks with the reimbursement, I wouldn't have been able to get my root canal if I had to pay the $1000 or so up front for it.

My teeth are sensitive too, but I have no soreness...but I guess everybody is different. When my filling is a bit high it also causes some discomfort so I know what you mean.

Yeah my teeth are pretty bad, I have a cavity on most teeth, including the one that just got a crown I think.

It's hard but at least it is something, before we were not getting anything and that was really unfun.

Nope I always have soreness. It's gone down a lot now since it's been nearly 24 hours. It's just sort of what always happens for me after dental work.
