I think my grandmother in law is really dying now. My grandmother in law is 95 or so (I might be off she might only be 94 but suffice it to say she is in her mid-90's so she is not that young.) About a year ago, maybe longer she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. By taking diuretics she was able to get the fluid out of her lungs and occasionally on bad days used an oxygen mask. About 2 weeks ago my in laws went to Costa Rica and I think the entire time they were away she didn't take the diuretics because she doesn't like them and got weaker and weaker. They came back and almost immediately checked her into the hospital. Supposedly, things are not going that well now and the doctor has said that things "Don't look good." We're not sure what that means but it certainly sounds ominous.

We called her almost every night while the in-laws were away, but she does live in Southern UT and we live in NY. And truth be told, I am not all that fond of my grandmother in law. I've tried to every so often be nice to her, I make sure to send her postcards from Japan, I got her a lovely pearl necklace from Ise, but we just don't get along. My grandmother in law is terribly vain, and my plumpness is a definite affront to her as is my lack of children. My lack of musical talent and the fact I am opinionated works against me as well.

It also just makes everything complicated. I'm starting the process of trying to figure out how can help look after the cats and the next bit will involve figuring out the stove. ^^;

Oh no... I'm sorry to hear about your difficult situation. :( I hope you're able to find someone to look after the cats.

Good luck!

What an awkward situation! I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother in law, but if you don't get along particularly well, I can imagine that must make things difficult knowing how to act around other relatives. And oh dear, trip to Utah again...

Thanks, it's very complicated and it doesn't help that we have home people putting in more insulation now. ;;_;;

I'm actually slightly more worried about the house since it is supposed to be really cold and I need someone to come and get a fire going for a while so that the pipes don't freeze.

Luckily, airfares to Vegas are a lot lower than flying to St. George. Though I realized I will prob be going to Salt Lake.

Did you get the detergent?

It makes things very difficult and I am not looking forward to going back to Utah. Luckily thanks to the Olympics, Ogden has better restaurants than St. George does now. It's just very frustrating and I'm trying to sort out airfare and when my hubby is leaving, since I think he wants to try to see her before she dies and to help out his parents.

Well, this is one of those things we knew would happen eventually. ^^;; I am just thankful I've not left for Japan yet since that makes it a little easier to work on. *sighs*

Yes! The detergent arrived and has been packed away into our ziplock of liquids. Thank you so much!

Things are a little hectic right now, since we're trying to get cat food/cat litter for the sitter/new shoes for Daniel/new glasses for me.

Good luck with everything... Maybe whoever comes to take care of the cats could spend some time lighting the fire each day?
