Time for a fangirly post. for those who don't know I've been scoping out This event since I first picked up some info on it over SCC. At first it was only 40 spaces, which seemed like a decent amount for a pairing only event. My first real only event was 10/19/03 when I went to the 60 person Yuuta only event. (That trip was also interesting as it was when I met [livejournal.com profile] muscatlove, [livejournal.com profile] yanchamonkey, and [livejournal.com profile] dilettantka for my first time. *waves to them*) And we're going to ignore that 10/19 is Hiroshi's birthday proving just how much my crack OTP is really TRU BOI LUV

I remember at the time I thought a 60 person Yuuta only event was awesome. The majority of circles there did Fujicest and the majority of circles did Yuuta uke. (there were a few MizuYuu circles and a few "let's 'ho out Yuuta" circles where he was also bottom) So 40 circles, just doing GinoSuza where Suzaku is bottoming seemed awesome since in all honesty, Geass characters might be more popular on character polls but doujinshiwise no series has come close to topping Tenipuri's might since I've gotten into doujinshi.

The big question was would circles I like go And could I find a way to go lol. About a month later the event had been upgraded to a 70 person event. How could I not be happy 70 people just doing GinoSuza!

I couldn't check the site while I was in CA and so when I got home I went over to it and... it's now 100 circles. 100 circles just doing GinoSuza! <3 <3 The circle list has a bunch of circles I really like listed like: Double Slash, Monthly Planets Maybe we'll finally get that damn GinoSuza book I want from them! Cle*matis, the Poisonboy people, Pandora's Box, Mime, Rainy (of course since they are helping run it), Homeopathy who I've wanted to try, and it looks like ROCKNDOLLESS the huge SuzaLulu circle that is one of the huge circles at the SuzaLulu event is going! OMG!!!!

All this means that I am now more and more worried about lines and the event being timed. I really really want a sketch by Mime since I'm not sure I've gotten them before and I would die to get one from RockNDolless. I knew RocknDolless liked GinoSuza since there is that one sold out book on Y!J I paid a small fortune for but wow, they're doing more. *____* i hope the book I am getting is good, I hope the new one is even better. About the only circle I really like who I am surprised is not attending is Zaco since they seem to be doing more GinoSuza with R2. (Kashi and Aquascape don't seen to do GinoSuza, I'm not surprised with Kashi but thought Aquascape might. Renbu and whatever Patisserie is calling itself now are too hard to know what they're doing >>; )

I so need to be at this event.

Cause I knew you were friends :P

I remember when I bought some buttons from her on the Geass comm that you mentioned you were friends with her. Since she was selling some of the same buttons I recognized them and figured it was the same person I bought them from via LJ.

And since you're friends I mentioned that I'm friended to you on LJ.

She didn't seem that "huh" at the time lol Though I was pretty out of it form my traveling back and forth to CA and family. XD;

But really it makes a lot of sense lol I tend to keep track of fan-made stuffs I buy and I'm always looking for Suzaku stuffs <3

I'm hoping there will be some interesting merchandise for the event.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who desperately wants to go! <3

I can't believe it is 100 circles, that's a really good size for a pairing only event. I think the LuluSuza event from Feb 08 was smaller though I can't remember how large it was. >>;

(Okay, I am sorry if you have gotten this exact same comment multiple times (I think I did it once as a reply to another's thread, but deleted it because I didn't mean to do it there). But for the love of me I can't figure out why the comment won't show up... orz;;; So I keep trying... I dunno if something was the matter or what... Oh, now it shows up. *shakes fist* At least all those botched attempts beforehand never did.)

As popular as Himemiko (ROCK'N'DOLLESS) is, I'm more anxious and excited for Beni Fujiwara (kiki) -- a popular Sephiroth/Cloud artist -- to see if she ends up doing anything. I was pretty surprised when I saw her doing Gino/Suzaku (or Code Geass at all since I thought she still deep in FFVII enough) a little while ago.

No problem, I sometimes edit and re-edit my comments as well, particularly when I make a typo >>;;;

Sometimes LJ is also just sort of sucky. I had a comment I was trying to post that it claimed wasn't posted but then there it was lol

Rockndolless is incredibly popular though, their first GinoSuza books goes regularly for 3000 yen+ on Y!J. I think the only other circle I've seen whose books regularly sell that high are Renbu Exe. BTW I think I am getting their latest and I was one of the stupid people who paid a fortune to get the first Rockndolless GinoSuza book so if it's any good once I get my grubby hands on it, it's so being scanned for the comm!

Have any inside art for kiki? I'm now curious what they're like XD; I think the line up looks pretty awesome. I should be at the event so perhaps I can try to pick something up for you. I've been loving using K-books >>; I've now placed 2 orders and might do a 3rd if my friend didn't get me the new Zaco book at the event on 7/20.

Sometimes a circle will do one or two things for another series. Prob it helps that Cloud and Suzaku share a seiyuu. I doubt she would do Geass for say Comiket but for an "only event." She definitely seems on the GinoSuza bandwagon since she has several 37 gifs.

So if you were me you would do Kiki, then Rockndolless, then Mime in terms of getting the books before they sell out? I like some of the other circles but those 3 seem the most likely to sell out. I'm also so determined to try to get me some sketches. >>; I have a bunch already, at some point I might scan them though my last bunch of sketches have all been of Suzaku since he is my favorite <3

I'm thinking of trying to get there super early since there seem to be so many big circles. Plus I should be nice and jetlagged

Yeah, I'm getting their first GinoSuza book if my friend ever ships it to me ;;_;; I spent a small fortune on it on Y!J.

I am in awe it is 100 circles and I hear that Kiki (http://code37.blog.shinobi.jp/) is a ginormous FFVII circle and so I'm excited to see what they're doing too!

Yeah for the GinoSuza love! <3

Yeah, here's a couple small samples here (http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/2736/821202cv1.jpg) and here (http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6229/04796006bjv6.jpg) of her inside art. If you want more, I think a couple of her books have been scanned/scanlated in the past (I don't actually follow Sephiroth/Cloud, haha).

Aw, thanks for the offer of trying to pick me up something. I might take you up on it if you're still willing as the date comes closer. I don't mind doing commission, etc. either for you, of course. Glad to know K-Books worked out, I didn't know if my directions were good enough, LOL. It's a lot easier when online stores let you do CC. If only others like Kaiteki Honyasan/YouClub or KAC Shop started doing it...

If I was going in terms of selling out -- probably go Himemiko, Momokichi Toudou, then Beni Fujiwara. Putting Fujiwara last 'cause I dunno if she's gonna be as well-known amongst Geass fans if you don't recognize her from past series' works (she doesn't have much Geass stuff in general as well). Also, Himemiko and Toudou already have a good amount of material out and have been active in the series longer so they're more recognizable and such, etc. Plus they are better bets in terms of a guaranteed release.

I know times where an artist (more or less doesn't help her activity in the series is quite slim compared to others') says they're gonna have a space at an event, but don't necessarily bring anything substantial (book-wise, old or new) due to whatever constraints or possible plans not going right. Most recent I can think of is Mikoto Aogiri (E-Plus) at the Zenkoku Reborn! event not too long ago; she had a space and was supposed to release a copy-book, but never did, though she did have a spot in the event's anthology.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] sumeragiskank actually found some doujinshi by Fujiwara to share. I don't follow FFVII, but I know who many of the characters are lol The art is quite nice Though I seriously hope she is doing more consensual GinoSuza lol

I just need to figure out if they limit how many books a person can buy since I know I want things and my friend here does too. (Though she doesn't like Momokichi's art.)

I find that fans seem to know all the big circles even if they're new to a series. I do think you're right about guaranteed releases. Momokichi does seem to always release something new and is not one of those circles who plays games. I'm hoping that all the circles will be nice and have previews of their new books up in their blog as the date gets closer. It does help that it's only July now so there is quite some time to get things done. (And it's far enough post Comiket to get things out)

Wow, I can't believe E-Plus did that since she use to be pretty reliable and put out a fair amount. I have had a few circles not put out things like they claimed they were going to. Kashi did that at Spark last year despite the fact they helped draw the book cover/poster for the event. ~.~ I rather like Monthly Planets and they've been promising their new GinoSuza book since 6/29, with the book still not out. I'm sort of hoping there will be an anthology for this, I know a lot of smaller events have something. I have Immoral from the LuluSuza one. I think summer events tend to be a little trickier because SCC and Comiket are both so large.

I both love and hate copyhons since they're a major pain to track down after.

I'm hoping to get to the event super early so I can be in the first group to go in and can race around before the lines go impossibly long. >>;

Hello, leaving a comment on this old post as it seems more on topic.

Belated congratulations on your confirmed attendence of the Area 37 event! I love Rock'n'Dolless too! xD The thing is, I'm pretty much set to go to the SuzaLulu Only event held the extended weekend before, and was wondering if you could give this Doujin Even greenhorn any advice... -.- I really want to get my hands on the new Rock'n'Dolless doujins, as well as stuff from some of the other circles I've been following online. Do big circles like R'n'D sell out really quickly? Should I go to the venue before the proclaimed starting time? It says that people aren't allowed to arrive earlier than 7.30am, so does that mean that there'll be queues?

I just saw that Rock'n'Dolless are releasing a poster for Comiket! It looks gorgeous! Hope they have it at the SuzaLulu even too!

I *might* try to make the Area 37 event, depending on how my finances look. -.- haha.

Oh, you also mentioned sketches by doujin artists, and I was wondering how that works..... Do you just ask them for one when you buy their books? o.o

Sorry for the many questions! -.-

Thanks I am pretty excited. :D I don't love RocknDolless, I do like their books when they're GinoSuza but hmmm I am not sure who my current favorite circle is. I still have a huge soft spot for Kashi but I think they are getting out of doujinshi. ^^;

I shall assume for this that you live in Japan cause otherwise it is really silly to just go for a single week end and sort of expensive ^^;

I've not been paying close attention to the big SuzaLulu event since I only like Suzaku uke, however I believe it is being held at TRC. It looks pretty huge so yeah people are going to line up way early. A lot of events *SAY* not to come before 7:30 but people don't generally listen, or at least for other events I've gone to they don't. A lot depends on what you are hoping to get when you should go and what your patience is for line waiting. When I went to the Geass only event at TRC in Feb I got there around 8ish and there was quite a line already.

I don't strictly collect Rock n Dolless stuff since I don't like Suzaku seme to anyone. I know the GinoSuza stuff they do is EXTREMELY popular I can't say how hard it is to get their other stuff at an event as I have never tried. I know their books don't always sell out cause I've seen them on the Toranora website. The same goes for the other big SuzaLulu circles like Dalc Rose and Cou. Some books are more popular than others and it depends on the run as well. Extras though nearly always sell out at an event. (So for example the poster you wanted sold out at Comiket except the ones that were held in reserve for Osaka, it will not be available at the SuzaLulu event though they might have something new.)

Big circles/popular circles can sell out super fast, Mime a usually 2nd tier uke Suzaku circle sold out one copyhon in 15 minutes once. Generally you queue to get in and then queue again for big circles. I've pretty often had to wait 20+ minutes after entering an event for a popular circle on top of the line to get in.

And sketches varies by how big the circle/event is. You do need to have your own pad. At the Geass only one, smaller circles you just asked when you bought from them and some of the bigger circles had separate lines just for sketches and they want to be sure you bought a book first. And yes, you just ask and then they ask you which character you want. I've been collecting sketches since 2005 and I currently have 24 the majority are of Suzaku since I've been into Geass a lot since I started collecting them. ^^

My biggest piece of advice is bring something to entertain yourself while waiting in line. ^^;

Wow, thanks so much for the information and advice!! ^^

I don't live in Japan anymore, but have been planning a trip to Japan, so thought I'd just time it such that it coincides with these events. :p

Mmmm, I think I can survive the queuing. Have queued up to 9 hours for a band in the cold. >.< Haha! We live in the age of portable entertainment, which is just perfect! Heh.

Sigh, the annoying thing about the Toranoana and Mandarake websites is that they'll only deliver within Japan. Oh well! My one attempt to buy doujins direct from the circle via postal order ended in failure. -.- Heh.

Thanks again for the advice~!! ^-^

No prob, I plan to make a website all about traveling to Japan for fannish purposes. :D So it is good practice to start writing things out.

Yeah I tend to plan my trips to coincide with events, in my case it's the GinoSuza event and then sightseeing. I have some friends who live in Japan and I like visiting them too. I just think it's odd to know if you're going to be there both week ends. lol I plan to go super early for the GinoSuza one because it seems to have a very strong and devoted following.

I remember the first time I got my first mp3 player and how nice it was for an event. I also tend to text a lot in Japan. lol The queuing isn't so bad to me, but I know for a lot of fans it is bit unsettling.

Yes, they don't ship abroad. But they're good websites to judge what has been released and what did and did not sell out. It can be hard to tell from Y!J. I know I saw one book sell there for 4000 yen and then managed to pick it up new from a website for a lot less. I don't think most circles are willing to ship internationally. ^^;

No prob! I am sure you will enjoy the event. Generally circles will show what is going to be released for said event ahead of time.
