rkoldSo for those who don't know or missed it, I was at Dollectable/visiting San Francisco from super early Friday morning until super late yesterday. The trip did not go as planned because my sister is sadly still a spoiled brat despite the fact she is getting close to 30. ~.~
I think she really needs to grow up some. I'm doing my best to just let it go since I know my mother would appreciate that, but I am not amused still.
So positive things:
The San Francisco Farmer's Market was awesome despite the fact the place with the breakfasts my sister raved about was sort of meh. The whipped cream and berries were good, the brioche was sort of tasteless. I seriously though could spend an entire week happily just hanging out at the SF market. Too bad it's only on Tues and Sat and ends by 2 XD;; I got tons of free samples and managed to bring home some tomatoes, nut brittleswithout corn syrup!!!, and some cheese. OMG the goat cheese was to die for. ;;_;; It makes me want a goat so I can make my own.
I flew Business class both ways. :D unfortunately, my plug didn't work.I am so bringing my other cord next trip But I got food and a personal DVD player with 20 different movies. This trip I saw: the Spiderwick Chronicles which I had wanted to see thanks to "Dan Green", Jumper, National Treasure movie 2, and Definitely Maybe. Dan Green's review of Spiderwick was pretty accurate, though I felt bad for the older sister because she had to deal with the Freddie Highmore emo twins. Jumper was so bad, like so so bad. But it wins for having someone exit Ginza Station and see the Shibuya 109 Building behind them. God, I love incongruities. Definitely Maybe could have been better and could have been worse. They all made the most unbelievable college students/twentysomethings I ever saw though. That and how can you not have known who Kurt Cobain was in 1992?!?!?!!?!?!?!? National Treasure was cheezy action adventure and I had to stop the lyrics to the Ballad of John Wilkes Booth repeating through my head again and again. The whole thing with Wilkinson from Rushmore on was almost as unbelievable as Mrs. Coulter in Book 3 of Dark Materials. I'm sorry, I just can't suspend my disbelief like that.
There were tons of really good places to eat ignoring dinner at the hotel. >>; Millennium was awesome and I should have gotten a picture of it for a YuGiOh comm. lol Dotties which my mother adores was cute and had huge portions though I secretly liked the pancakes better at the hotel >>; The vegan raw restaurant was interesting even though I felt so sick afterwards. Herbivore wasn't bad but the lines were scary. I think hands down my favorites were the sandwich place I got something for the plane and bakery we had breakfast the last day. >>; Sometimes I think I prefer conventional food.
Other thoughts on SF/Dollectable:
OMG SF is SO COLD I was freezing most of the trip! I spent so much time with my teeth chattering lol
No one knew me at Dollectable. lol This could be good or bad since like no one was friendly to me or wanted to talk to me. It was a bit frustrating for the hour or so I spent at the cocktail party before I had to meet my mom, sister and sister's SO for dinner.
I think the panels went well. I ended up running two. I think if I'm asked to give input, the Travel to Japan one should really be two hours and I'm not sure Sato needs its own separate one. I'm just not really sure how much there is to say about it that can't easily be found on-line. I'm flattered that people think I know enough about Japan to write a book and I was really happy my mom liked my talk. I need to practice endings. ^^;
Waiting 45 minutes to ride the cable car sucks. Like sucks so bad. For one thing, the cable cars go about as fast I go when I walk. Maybe a little faster but not much. The only thing worse was the F on Market which seriously did go slower than my Mom with her bad back could walk! o_O; I ended up using the California line more since it came out near the hotel and like never had a line.
I did a boat trip on Fisherman's Wharf and saw dolphins and the sea lions. We went under both the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge. We were inside, but considering how cold and wet and windy it looked I did not care. lol Though the water actual gave me a touch of motion sickness.
My sister and Jenny were both really obnoxious and annoying and I'm not really in a rush now to see either. Luckily I don't expect to stay overnight in SFO for some time. I'm not going to go into details but they were both, particularly my sister frustrating. I think refusing to meet my mom because she was 10 minutes late took the cake though.
The hotel was an interesting location. It was convenient to two bus lines and a cable car line. The room was huge, the beds were comfy and the shower was great. The price for the room was reasonable. Van Ness was super cold though and windier than nearly anywhere else in SF. That didn't help with me already feeling cold. The hotel also had the worst internet I have ever had in a hotel. The cheap motel in Utah I stayed at for my step grandfather's funeral had faster service. So from Friday until today I couldn't check LJ. ~.~
Anyone who posted something important in their LJ between today and Thurs please share it here as I might have missed it since the internet at the hotel sucked, like sucked big time. I've tried to go back, but it doesn't always go well. >>;
I'm glad to be home, though now I need to work on my UT trip and my trip to Japan. For those curious I am going to Japan in October. I don't know my itinerary yet but I will be in Tokyo for a while since I want to attend an event there. XD;; I also really really want to go to Ise finally and Nagoshima SpaLand <3

I hope you feel the travel panel went well, I think people seemed interested. But yeah, I definitely think I would fold Sato into the travel panel since I'm not really sure how much there is to share on it that can't be covered under a more general travel panel. ^^;
But overall it seemed like the con went well, kudos to you! :D
