On Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] becroberts and I returned to Kyoto. (I forgot to mention we met [livejournal.com profile] chocolate_chip for a yummy dinner post Arashiyama but we weren't able to coordinate our schedules to meet again until [livejournal.com profile] becroberts had returned to Tokyo/UK

We took the bus from Kyoto Station to Ginkaku-ji and [livejournal.com profile] becroberts discovered why I try to void buses in Kyoto whenever I can. We passed some sort of flea market on the bus, but unfortunately when we went back it was over. I still wonder what sorts of interesting things were for sale, but we had cultural pursuits!

This large sand sculpture is supposed to represent Mt. Fuji

Go me with the azalea pictures!

Hungry koi

The lovely moss garden a Ginkaku-ji

Despite not being covered in silver, the little brown building is the Silver Pavilion. I actually prefer it to the Golden one, because the gardens are nicer.

A too dark picture of [livejournal.com profile] becroberts ~.~

After visiting Ginkaku-ji we started on the Philosopher's Path. It's a lovely walk along a small canal and during sakura season is supposed to be fabulous (and crowded beyond belief)

Smaller temple that was mostly closed we found off the Path

The actual Philosopher's Path.

While trying to find another small temple off the Path, we accidentally went too far and ended up climbing up a *VERY* steep path which eventually lead into the forest surrounding Kyoto and to an expensive restaurant lol After working all that way (the templed had been closed and we'd passed it much earlier on) I wanted some pictures, so here are the funky mushrooms I saw

Back on the Path

A small shinto shrine off the Path famous for it's animal sculptures. I thought the mice were so cute!

Back to the Path. XD; BTW for those curious there were koi in the canal.

A map of Kyoto showing the Path so I can remember what the other places we visited were. ^_^;;

Another small shinto shrine, though this one had people living there including an adorable fat Japanese baby.

The garden at Eikan-do

Some very happy ducks

The main part of Eikan-do, the dragon passages (another set of them) didn't want to photograph well because of awkward lighting ~.~ It was incredibly cool though.

Look nice modern stairs!

And finally we ended at Nanzen-ji. Someday I will eat some of the famous Buddhist vegetarian food there! Instead we went back to Osaka and ate there XD;

For those curious, this is what the room we stayed in looked like in Osaka:

It was quite large, but had no outlets near the LAN cable. o_O;; It was one of those weekly stay type mansions so no maid service every day, but that meant one could stay in the room as long as one wanted during the day which came in handy the day we went to the doctor's.
