Happy Belated Birthday Hiroshi
Nov. 1st, 2007 09:33 amI made it back from the Wilds of Utah (and Japan) and with all that flight time and my sprain mostly healed I managed to finally finish a short belated birthday ficlet for Yagyuu. Technically, they're PoT characters but by this point in time I think my versions of them are so divorced from PoT proper you don't have to be a PoT fan to read, in fact it might be better if you're not. >>; No spoilers for PoT or knowledge of PoT really required.
Title: Happy Birthday or For Now
Author: Me
Pairing: Yagyuu x Yuuta
Rating/Warning: Don't read if male/male or m-preg squicks you.
Disclaimers: PoT characters are not mine, this is RWT timeline based and unbetaed.
Yagyuu Hiroshi rubbed the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes for a second before opening the metal cabinet next to him to start filing the newest round of contracts. While he generally preferred the more intellectually stimulating work of reading them over, filing was a welcome respite after a mostly sleepless night finishing a paper for Yamagata-sensei. Stifling a yawn, Hiroshi glanced quickly at his watch, grateful that another 15 minutes had passed since he last checked leaving him with only 30 more minutes before he could go home. Home to Yuuta, a small smile tugged at his lips. Undoubtedly, Yuuta would be waiting with some sort of celebratory home cooked meal and a birthday gift he probably shouldn't have spent their meager funds on, but even that thought couldn't supplant his smile. It was a bit hard to believe that his 19th birthday was almost over, he certainly hadn't expected to spend it like this. Last year, he and Yuuta had talked excitedly about it. Last year, everything had been different.
Bowing as he left the office to one of the junior lawyers, Hiroshi felt a twinge of guilt that he was not staying later to help in the preparation for the big new London contract. His position was invaluable to him and under normal circumstances he would have stayed another hour longer but Yuuta was sure to be waiting at home to share this day with Hiroshi. Yuuta's world in particular had been narrowing of late, though the younger boy gave no outward sign of discomfort. Last week he'd switched from attending his elite high school to correspondence courses via the internet. Hiroshi felt another pang of guilt over this. One absurd mistake had cost both of them their futures. Saying his family had not been pleased would perhaps be the understatement of the century and the Fujis...In Hiroshi's experience had as usual found a way to make the situation even more difficult. Yuuta had already declared that he would only accept financial support towards their apartment and his schooling expenses, as his family would have paid those before, which left Hiroshi needing this job and their current financial crunch. It's not that he disagreed with Yuuta either, though his parents had lectured him on the efficacy of the very solution Yuuta had so vehemently rejected. During that long and miserable family dinner with his parents he'd begun to realize how completely trapped they were and all of their plans ruined. One of the few bright spots was Yuuta had missed that occasion. It had killed Hiroshi to swallow his pride and beg his father for the help required to secure this job, but there had been no other options, and at least it was successful, another bright spot.
Quickly, Hiroshi slid his Suica card over the sensor on the turnstile for the train, crushing into the crowded car, thankful that at least he carried only a simple briefcase and a newspaper. Last year, his birthday had been on a Thursday and with his exams for Todai so close he hadn't been able to come up to Tokyo to see Yuuta. Instead his thoughts had just wandered to the other boy through out the day and the upcoming week end they'd planned to spend together. Despite emails, text messages and several phone calls it was just not the same as actually seeing Yuuta in person, the family dinner and attempts by Niou to cajole him out were not comparable. And while Hiroshi wasn't sure Yuuta would have appreciated it, he'd often worried about his boyfriend who had lived alone save for his cat in his apartment in Hiroo. With his head laying pillowed on Hiroshi's chest, Yuuta had given him a soft smile as they cuddled in bed together that October week end, planning what their future or at the very least what the next year would hold for them. Of course Hiroshi would get into Todai, Yuuta never had any doubts, and together they would get a new apartment some where not so far from Hyoutei for Yuuta and not too inconvenient for Hiroshi either. Placing a small kiss on Hiroshi's cheek, Yuuta had promised to make a special dinner the next year and to find a way to make the next birthday unforgettable. Joking Hiroshi had asked if it would involve any of those websites Niou had taught Yuuta about causing a deep red blush to rise in Yuuta's cheeks. And while not completely perfect, it was all Hiroshi had ever wanted.
Yuuta had been right, he did get into Todai and they were able to find a mostly perfect apartment not too long a commute from Todai and Hyoutei. Everything had started off just as they planned until that visit to Hiroshi's father's office about the flu Yuuta had seemed unable to shake off. It had seemed incomprehensible at the time and Hiroshi admitted he wasn't sure he would have had the strength to accept the situation in Yuuta's position. Sometimes, when he looked at his boyfriend's expanding belly he wondered how Yuuta stood it, not just the physicalities, but the attention it drew. Despite their meeting on a reality television show, it was clear from the start that Yuuta shied away from being the center of attention and had been aghast to find himself a favorite of the show's fans. It was almost too bad that was the case a little niggling voice often spoke in Hiroshi's mind, as otherwise they could cash in on their temporary fame to help cover their blossoming expenses. But the thought of subjecting Yuuta to the interviews and attention sent a surge of anger through Hiroshi, he would never let Yuuta suffer through that, the situation they were currently facing seemed terrible enough without that added torture. At the very least they had each other, which according to Yuuta meant everything would work out and made Hiroshi even more protective of his boyfriend.
A week or two ago, Hiroshi had almost confided to Niou regarding the pressures of the situation, not that they weren't somewhat obvious to a person like Niou. However despite some of the similarities of their situations, Hiroshi had never been particularly good at being open with people and he hadn't completely trusted Niou when the other boy had invited him to Starbucks after some classes his treat. Niou never treated unless he had an ulterior motive. Instead Hiroshi had politely refused the offer, his cold and distant front firmly in place, replying he had promised to pick up a new skin lotion for Yuuta. Only Yuuta had somehow found a way around the barrier Hiroshi so often kept in place and he still wasn't sure how the other boy had done it, but secretly was pleased he had. Smirking for a brief second before shrugging in defeat, Niou had declared it Hiroshi's loss, before wagging his eyebrows and teasing that he might see if Yuuta would take him up on the date instead. Frowning, Hiroshi had suggested that Yuuta had enough concerns right now, not liking the idea of whatever his former classmate had planned for his boyfriend. Chuckling, Niou offered what better reason for Yuuta to indulge his love of Starbucks, before clapping a hand around Hiroshi's shoulder. Expression becoming slightly less wolfish, Niou promised to be good, or rather as good as he could be and Hiroshi had just raised an eyebrow before leaving. He hadn't completely lied to Niou, he did want to pick up a new lotion, and while at one of the stations he picked up a caramel frappucino as well.
Taking the steps two at a time, Hiroshi jogged up to the front door of their apartment, keys jiggling at the ready. Toeing off his shoes immediately after stepping inside, he called a welcome into the dark apartment. A small crease formed in Hiroshi's brow as the lack of light registered as well as the lack of delicious scents coming from the kitchen. Flipping the switches Hiroshi began to search the apartment, the shadows at his feet already quivering. The kitchen and dinning room were empty, though there were signs of Yuuta having been cooking earlier by some dishes soaking in the sink. Louder he called the other boy's name, the shadows fluctuations becoming more wild, as he passed into the silent living room. His eyes had already adjusted to the dark fast enough for him to know that there was no one hidden behind the tiny couch or bookcases ready to jump out to shout surprise. Hurriedly, he switched on the light to the bedroom, the start of his boyfriend's name coming from his mouth before glancing down onto the bed. Frappucino yawned up at Hiroshi, before licking one of her paws while giving Hiroshi a disdainful look for interrupting her nap. Yuuta lay next to her, curled up on his side on the partially made bed. Hair tousled and standing up at weird angles, a pair of sweat pants low on his hips, his jeans and khakis no longer fitting right and Yuuta completely refused to think about trying maternity. One of Hiroshi's old Rikkai t-shirts hung loose revealing his boyfriend's collarbone, but stretched tight over the swell of his belly. Making a soft sound, Yuuta nodded into the comforter. Smiling fondly, Hiroshi was almost tempted to try and get a picture, but felt that was a bit too much like a Fuji. Sitting down on the mattress, he placed a gentle kiss on Yuuta's forehead, unable to stop from smiling. With a much less graceful yawn than the cat, Yuuta slowly woke, blinking sleepily a few moments and mumbling about not having meant to take a nap before realizing he had a human audience. Startled, Yuuta tried to sit up but flailed, his movements hampered by his ungainly belly.
"Oh, Hiroshi-san, Happy Birthday, I'm sorry I..."
"You and the baby needed rest, Yuuta" Taking Yuuta's hand in his, he laced their fingers together.
"I did start dinner, I was just cleaning and thought I would take a small nap." Yuuta's cheeks remained crimson as he ducked his head shyly.
"It's all right." Hiroshi felt a swell of love for his boyfriend. "I was just thinking how glad I am that we're spending my birthday together."
"Really and truly?"
Hiroshi leaned over and gave Yuuta a kiss on his lips. "Really and truly."
"Oh!" blurted out Yuuta, face suddenly completely lighting up. "I or.. umm we have a special birthday gift for you."
"Hmmm?"
Reaching out Yuuta took Hiroshi's hand slid it under the t-shirt against his belly. "You might have to wait a bit but.."
Several moments passed before Hiroshi felt a strange movement beneath Yuuta's skin, eyes widening at the realization of what it must be.
"Is that?"
Nodding, Yuuta leant over and kissed him. "Happy Birthday, Hiroshi-san."
