KITA!

Wednesday it rained buckets here and I was unfortunate enough to get caught out in it. On the bright side it much less humid and I didn't need to worry about watering any of my plants.

Thursday morning I went to check on my garden after the mailman woke me up to some EMS packages. I was slightly disheartened to see what appeared to be tons of tiny little weeds coming up. I pulled out maybe 4 or 5 before I stopped and realized the "weeds" were only in 3 boxes and some of them were awful close together. It was then that I realized that it was my arugula in actuality! So starting Thursday, signs of life in the arugula and today I saw a tiny bit of green in one of the carrots squares, the nasturtium, the cilantro, and I think some basil! Now to keep my little seedlings alive and happy. I am hoping everything else I've planted also decides to come up. I've decided that after 2 weeks, if there is no green, to try planting some more seeds in those squares. >>;

The very happy hydrangea of unknown flavors that came with the house

The seed bed after planting. I am using a method referred to as square foot gardening, where each square gets one type of plant to help keep the soil as well as the plants healthier. The back wall gets the future larger/vine type veggies, in this case two different types of tomato, cucumbers, and sugar snap peas.

Blushing bride, General Vic, Penny Mac and the President's Grey Lilac along with a few miscellaneous lilies of the valley. I staked the Penny Mac since it was sort of growing along the ground and it seems much happier. It's already gotten a few new leaves on it, though no flowers yet. If not this summer, hopefully next! General Vic also has quite a few new leaves. I also finally started wedding the area so I can put down wood chips.

This week end I am hoping to get another raised bed along with zucchini seeds since I've been promised that zucchini grow like weeds. lol I would love to be able to make zucchini green pepper enchiladas with zucchini and green pepper I grew myself!

If you're scared about weeds, try Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed Plus Weed Preventer? (Does not kill existing weeds-- just keeps weed seeds from germinating)

My husband doesn't believe in using chemicals in the yard and I'm not sure how I feel about it either. ^^;;;

I'm planning to try putting down some wood chip mulch because it should help improve the soil and makes it harder for reads to grow cause they're not getting any sunlight. I secretly also like some of our weeds I might go on another pulling bender, plant some impatiens and then try it out.

I really really like tulips and we get a lot more sun than I first thought. I definitely want to clean out my window box and plant some there in the fall. I've been trying to decide on colors and scoping the catalogs.

Haha, then Miracle-Gro Organic Choice All-Purpose Plant Food~ X.DDD Sorry, I'm just being silly. =.P I don't really mean for you to buy these products. .^^; But I gotta keep my Scotts products knowledge sharp, haha.

As for chemicals though, personally I wouldn't worry about 'em unless you're growing edibles. But ya, mulch is good. I've seen people at the Depot take home like 20 bags' worth of bark nuggets. .@_@_@_@;; If you want to make extra sure that no sun gets through, you can try putting down a weed block under the mulch.

I actually did think about putting down weed block, but you're supposed to put it down first and then make holes for your plants and I already planted things. lol

So I am going to try the mulch stuff once I get rid of some more weeds. I'll prob do it tomorrow.

And I just worry with chemicals cause I am weird. lol It goes along with being a vegetarian. :P
