The logistics of this is just mind numbing. Not only do you need to rent space and rent a plane, but you need to find someplace for those dealers to stay and a way for them to get to said convention hall, since LA is not known for its public transportation.

I don't even want to think about what is going to happen when US people discover the joys of waiting on line for 3-4 hours in the hot sun before something like this even starts.

I don't think there'd be much by way of having to wait in line.. I can't imagine that they'd not have something that guarantees the people getting in.

The logistics give me a headache though just thinking about it.

Everyone who goes to a Dolpa gets in, but if you don't get there super early, you can find the items you wanted sold out. Circles like DDK and Baby Blue Eyes or Boudoir, can sell out in the first 10 minutes, and if you arrive at a Dolpa at the scheduled opening time, you are not going to get in until about 30 minutes later. I just saw a LOT of whining from people about how difficult it was waiting in the hot sun for the LA store to open, and really that is par for the course in Japan. (albeit the cold for Winter events) I know I've had to wait on say the Hitomiya line for upwards of 40 minutes once already inside a Dolpa or Doll Show.

And I don't want to even think about all the "But I *LOVE* my non-Volks BJD" issues that will come up.

The president said they will hold the dolpa in a hotel so it kills two birds with one stone ;)

And are they paying for the dealers to stay in the hotel, or are the dealers paying that part?

It just hurts my brain. lol I think part of the problem is most Japanese dealers also don't seem to speak a lot of English and it just seems a huge expenditure to rent an entire airplane. Though if they can get Hitomiya to go I would be well pleased. (they skipped GW Dolpa ~.~ )

This so means I am prob not going to Dollectable. lol So since you were there, does 2 day event==NY store, or is this another FDQ thing? I so know with my luck it will be when I am in Japan, though considering how crappy my bingo card was, I have about the same chance of winning a Sei-Tenshi in Japan. :P

At least it looks like we will definitely get to finally meet. :P I wonder which dealers they will get, some are really talented and I would love to have come out. I also wonder if they will charge more than the $ to yen ratio and how the language barrier will work. ^^; So so so so so many questions...

I hope you go to the LA Dolpa, because I am DEFINATELY going to this one! I am going to start saving up soon, because I need to have enough for the flight and hotel as well as enough for a limited doll and loads of other things. I don't mind if I have to wait in the sun for hours, it would be nice if we could at least wait as a group so we could chat :)

Well, if they actually get lots of Japanese dealers, I will go. lol

Though if it's anything like a Dolpa, we are likely to be on different lines since I am prob not going to be on the LE line and will wait for the dealer's room. ^^; I hate the LE Lottery and the doll would have to be some amazingly wonderful Yo for me to do the LE line. lol

I, too, am very curious as to how they're going to handle the logistics of this... especially in terms of Japanese dealers who may not speak English. I wonder if they'll be doing a general request for help from Japanese speaking volunteers?

Most Japanese dealers I've met know a tiny bit of English, not necessarily enough to answer potential questions of buyers beyond "SD size, Petit Ai size, etc."

Also, how do you price your 5000 yen outfit? Is it $50 is it $43.48? You would need an awful lot of volunteers since you won't know when an English speaker will suddenly have a question.

A close friend also mentioned there is the issue that most Japanese dealers have other jobs and they will need to get vacation time. They need at least 3 days and the time change will suck for them o_O;;

I know I come off as sounding negative, and I think it is lovely Volks wants to do this, but the logistics just have me going o_O and thankful that I won't be in charge of them.

I'd probably go anyhow, but a feature for me is definately Japanese dealers. So either way I'm hoping it works out!

I don't know yet if I am getting a limited for sure though. I have to see what they come up with, I just am going to start saving for one just in case.

They didn't mention FDQ, so I'm not sure. I'm also not sure if this Dolpa thing is supposed to be in Fall or Summer. ^^; I wasn't paying attention. ^^;;

No matter what, I'm definitely going to both. XD

The Dolpa thing I sort of want to wait a little more on. The more I think about it, the more getting 500 dealers from Japan seems a little o_O

I mean even if you have an event in a hotel, and most of the dealers are staying in said hotel, 500 booths is an awful lot. Doll Show is only about 350 and it takes up 3+ floors now.

Plus umm a lot of Japanese dealer have umm actual jobs. I sort of have to wonder if there wasn't a bit of grand talking in this 500 dealers part of it.

i am not going to save for one. I am more curious how well they can actually do this, the more I think about it, the more complications I see. I think there are definitely some dealers who would jump at this, but 500 seems to be pushing it a lot.

I'm not sure where the 500 dealers is coming from, because I'm 99.9% sure I heard them say 500 fans, with dealers being amongst them.

So when are you going to come out East, is a 2 day event with face-up classes enough to tempt you?

I sort of wonder if it hasn't sort of become a bit like telephone, where people remember what they want to hear.

I do admit a lot of reservations, but a part of me wants to go. And of course I do want to meet you. :P
